Ok - not sure why I struggled with this problem for so long. Before, the only way I could get a movie to go to the next/previous chapter was to use separate clips and the playlist feature. But this method produces pauses during the transition from one clip to another. Now suddenly I can use a single long file with chapter points and it works !
Maybe it is an SVCD issue and I just assumed DVD's did the same when I got my new drive. Or maybe a Ulead patch fixed it.
Anyway, don't create separate clips (Cut Title) nor use the playlist feature. ( DWS still creates a default playlist though ). Instead create chapter points (Add Chapter) as required using one long clip. Create a menu and link these chapters to it if required. I prefer to only link the main scenes to menu buttons - and then use the remote to 'tab' to the in-between chapters. IMO forcing the DVD to go to the menu after playing a clip - which is in high demand in all authoring forums - is for control freaks. If only they knew how unappreciated the prospective viewer feels about it !
DWS2 - Slight pauses between chapters fixed
Agree
agreed, if you don't want "pausing" between titles, you would get a smooth transition using just a long title with chapter points.
In DWS2.x, this works when all you want is to play through "sequentially", but it prevents you from playing things in random order (like chapter 3, then chapter 1, then chapter 5, etc...). It also prevents you from playing just a single chapter, and returning to the menu -- once you skip/jump to a chapter, it plays from that point to the end of the title.
Either way works, it's just a matter of how you want your dvd to "flow"...
