Cannot make PhotoImpact the default to open jpg or png files

Post by wjrs5aol »

Why can't I make PhotoImpact the standard program to open a jpg file for instance? I've altered the setting in File/Preferences within the program. No luck! I've also tried to do it within Windows XP itself by right-clicking on a jpg file and choosing Open With and then Browsing to find the Iedit.exe program. This failed as XP opened the file in another program. It seems as though XP will not recognise PhotoImpact as a program which can open jpg files though funnily it does recognise PhotoImpact Album as such a program.

Did you check the "always open with this program" box. If you right click and select properties and hit the "change " button next to open with by default this checkbox is checked.

Yes I've done all this. PhotoImpact is not on the recommended list nor is it on the other list and if I browse to find the Iedit.exe and open this it still refuses to open it in PhotoImpact. XP doesn't want to know PhotoImpact. If I run PhotoImpact and open the jpg there is no problem. Very strange.

Odd indeed. Have you tried reinstalling it? Possibly you have a corrupt registry entry?

That really is strange. I've had Ulead Photo Explorer selected as the default to open image files so I just went through the process to select Photo Impact. Worked like a charm on my XP Home SP2 machine.

To make PI the default program to open any (or all) image type(s),

1. Open PI
2. Pressing F6 will bring up the Preferences menu.
3. Go down to the System sub-menu, click the "+" and open "Associate"
4. Click "Select All" or tick only the image types you want PI to open.
5. Close PI. Reopen PI for the change to take place.
Done
