I have MSP7.3 and just got VS11+ about 10 days ago with the update and pack to handle my HDV.
Believe it or not, I've correctly (via this site) uninstalled & re-installed VS11+ three times because it is unable to save anything without the unspecified error closing the program. Sometimes, it's a system error...other times, it's the video editor error.
I've capped .m2t with Sony software included with the HC5 cam. VS11+ opens them and I've placed them on the timeline & edited.
But no matter what format I choose (wmv, m2t, mpeg, etc), it's never been able to save any file. This is quite amazing since it's also just a 5 minute video. My video is basically stuck in the program.
Specifically, I'm trying to save @ 384x216 .wmv's for the net & Mpeg2's for DVD's.
On the opening page of the program, I've checked 16:9 but I now think this may be wrong since the HDV is squished to 1440x1080 (4:3) on the tape. I've the project settings the same as the caps.
Just one of several problems...

VS+11.5, Vdub, Audacity, XPP SP3, IE, Chrome, FF, PSP 7.02
VS is now closing abruptly on me and is getting worse instead of better
Also noticed my MSP is now crashing...
I was able to save a m2t file when I told it to record to tape but I think something is major wrong...
Paging file/ram is set ok
Can't make a 2 pass wmv at the size mentioned above...crashes at about 70-80%
It wants to save but seems to hit a bottleneck
This was supposed to be a quick and convenient way of putting my HDV on the net...

Hi zoobie
Sorry but know little about High Definition, and do not use VS 11.
Just managing 10 at the moment.
There is a good tutorial regarding HD, which may be worth reading.

written in the 10 days of VS 10, I assume it to be still relevant.
Hope this Helps

I trust that you have your pc disconnected from the net when editing.zoobie wrote:VS is now closing abruptly on me and is getting worse instead of better

Most posters imply that their problems with VS are due to bugs in the program. You might read the Wikipedia entries for the Storm Botnet, however. Some estimate that 25% of pc's are compromised. I believe the problem is on the increase as a result of increases in P2P file sharing, and it's another reason I would always recommend the use of a boxed retail version of VS from a reputable source, and the routine use of disk imaging programs such as Norton Ghost.

Seems VS likes the exporting templates but they're all 4:3 in the wmv. This would be very convenient if you're stuck in SD and the 1990's.
Like MSP, it doesn't take kindly to custom sizing which is necessary to get back to 16:9.
Now all I have to do is guess...

When I guessed at a 16:9 size for a wmv, it made it right off the bat. Why? I slightly changed the bitrate. Now I can make my desired size.
I happened to remember MSP's behavior of sometimes wanting fresh bitrates each rendering attempt so I made a few custom templates labeled A, B, & C each with a slightly different bitrate.
Now I'm going from cap to net in one easy step in HD.
Well, that's solved...I was gonna say...hey man...
