I cannot export videos to DVD MovieFactory:

Post by sadaji »

Please provide me with your help.

I'm using MediaStudio Pro8. When I select Export - DVD Authoring, a message "Illegal private INI, pathname - %s. [20159:1:8]" appears. When pressing OK, then another message "File 'DVDMF.exe' not found [20159:1:12]" appears. So I downloaded a trial version of MovieFactory 6, but the same error messages appear. When I create a video file (Microsoft AVI files, 24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps, Lower Field First,
DV Video Encoder -- type 1, DV Audio -- NTSC, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo) and burn a dvd through MF6, the video quality deteriorates significantly. Thank you.

When you install MSP8 it should also install an SE version of MovieFactory 4. If however you have a separate FULL version of MovieFactory installed it is much better to create a video from MSP8 and then open that video with your full version of MovieFactory.

Of course the video quality on a DVD is not the same as with DV. The latter needs 13 Gb/h of disk space. A typical DVD contains ~2-3 Gb/h. There are no miracles.

However, that is not the point. The point is that you tell us nothing about a) the length of your project, b) the MPEG-2 settings you used to author your project or c) what are the specific faults you observe in the DVD.

In fact, you don't appear to have read the PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING thread. It's there for a reason, you know.

When you give us the details of what we need to know, then we may be able to give you some more positive answers.

Thank you for your responses. Please let me clarify my questions.

My project is 20 min long (two 10 min projects) with some very simple titles. When I made similar dvds using VideoStudio 10, the picture quality was much better. Now, when I create a video file with MSP8, this video (before the process of authoring) is very grainy and fuzzy. It looks like a copy of a copy of a copy of a VHS tape.

My computer is IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP. I tried both AVI and MPEG. MPEG (MPEG files, 24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps, Lower Field First (DVD-NTSC), 4:3, Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps) Audio data rate: 224 kbps) to create a video file. I selected options-compression-100 in quality. The original footage (Mini DV) was captured in AVI, type 1.

1. Is there any solution to increase the picture quality of the video file?
2. Is it possible to export my projects directly to MovieFactory? As I mentioned yesterday, the error messages appear.

Thank you in advance for your help.

1. I assume you have done all your editing in DV-AVI and created a DV-AVI file of your completed project. Does this play OK? If not, try disabling Smart Render

2. Have you Created (not Exported) a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file using the settings you mentioned? Does this play OK?

3. For a short project like this, there is no advantage whatsoever in using VBR and many players baulk at 8224 kbit/s combined A+V. Please see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=26715 -- I suggest you make a trial with video 6000 kbit/s CBR + audio AC-3 192 kbit/s and tell us what it looks like.

4. When you say it looks bad, are you playing the DVD on a computer or via a player to a TV? There is a world of difference.
