chapters don't appear on menu

Post by Larrycleve »

Hi, I redid the project to make some tweaks and it went straight thru on VS11+ fine, Except- I created chapters in the share section using the auto feature. I set them at 20 minute intervals with 6 total. It showed the thumbnails on the bottom. I clicked OK, picked a menu and burned. When viewing the dvd it showed the menu but not the chapters, just 1 of 1. I went back to the project. The chapter thumbnails are there but at the next screen the preview just shows the menu and 1 of 1. I downloaded and installed the latest version of directx, 11/07, but it didn't help. :(

First, did you customise/edit the separate Chapters page in the menu? I mean, when you chose the template for the main menu page, did you right click to select backgrounds for the Chapter menus? And use to Edit tab on the same page to select background music etc for them?

Second, when you look at the main page of the menu, are there not little sets of icons down in the bottom right of the menu screen? The default Home icon is obvious and refers to the main menu page. The little double pointed arrow should take you into the Chapters page... Does yours have these sorts of icons and did you press them either in Preview or in your completed DVD?

You have created a DVD with a main menu and a chapter menu.
The Main menu will only have one thumbnail because you only have one Title (or if you prefer video)
Click on that thumbnail and it will activate your chapter menu.
The chapter menu should have several thumbnails because (if you did it correctly) you will have several chapters.

I played the dvd on my computer and did see those icons on the bottom. The chapters were there. When I played it on my dvd player connected to the tv i clicked the yellow arrow and it went right to the beginning. I'll try clicking those bottom icons when playing on the tv. Thanks :)

The bigger solid arrow just means 'Play'. It is indeed the smaller icons further to the right that should take you to the Chapters page.
