I hope I am in the right discussion forum... am 'new' to Vista and am having problems....
A week ago received new desktop with Vista Home Basic operating system.
Installed MS Office 2000, Nero 7, VS 11+
All systems/documents working fine for first 24 hours even editing/creating from VS 11+ (started working on a project DVD for a friend)
Then all hell broke lose with importing of photos and video clips -
"Window host process (Rundll32) has stopped working"
This dialog box keeps prompting (up to 32 boxes!!! at times)
Have contacted Dell technicians (desktop brought from Dell - desktop is Vostro 200) - had to reinstall Vista HB operating system but most of my images and clips for project were lost when trying to do upback...system crashed!!! while technician was with me online.
Okay, life goes on... (not stressing!)
Reinstalled Vista HB, reinstall all softwares programs.... still 'Rundll32' creeps up!!!!
Have anyone any similar problem with theirs???
The 'rundll32' appears again only when I am trying to import jpegs or mpg/avi into VS 11+ !!!!
I was using a laptop previously with VS 11+ (have box not download from net)
Am not good with computer terms (terminologies) so pls bear with moi! Hopefully someone understands what the hell I am rabbiting on... am still in touch with technician, but wondered if anyone out there knows other solution??
Cheers

Did you mention the Rundll32 problem to the Dell Technician and did he give any advice?
My suspicions at the moment lie with your source material rather than the program because you re-installed Vista and then re-installed VideoStudio.
It would therefore be odd to have the same error due to the operting system or the program.
VideoStudio has several sample vidoes and images. Do you get this error if you try to add those to the timeline?
Do you have some other images and videos that you can try to see if the error persists?
Where did your images and videos originate from (Digital camera, camcorder, off the internet etc.)

RunDLL32.exe is in itself harmless - it's a neccesary part of Windows and is generally used to run DLL files as though they were executable programs. The problem comes from the fact that some malware, spyware or trojans hide behind it or use it to run themselves. These commonly use RunDLL32 to open popups, run keyloggers etc, but it is also vital to many ligitimate processes. Don't remove it - just try to find out what's running it, then remove that. In the meantime, you might want to consider killing the process using Task Manager.
As a matter of urgency, if the tech hasn't already suggested it, run a very up-to-date anti virus suite on your whole system and if necessary a specific anti-trojan program plus Ad-Aware to see if they can locate anything in any of the programs you have installed. It is unlikely to be in VS's installation -- otherwise we here would have been deluged with shouts of outrage from other users, and we haven't been!
Anyway, just remember, something legitimate may be using rundll32 too. So you might want to use your Task Manager and look at services running to see if there is anything unusual that sounds a bit suspicious. The only problem with that is that if you are not particularly familiar with central Windows services, you could switch off something vital to the running of Vista. However, it might at least assist the techs if you could send them a copy of the processes running at any one time. In Vista, by the way, you can get Task Manager on screen by right clicking on the Taskbar across the bottom of screen and selecting ... Task Manager! (You can also get to it by the traditional Ctrl+Alt+Delete, but Vista then brings up the dread User Account Control to ask you if you really want to load it!)
Curious, though, that the message comes up only when loading image/video files. I wonder if you have some other (freeware? shareware?) image/video related software which might be harbouring malware of some kind...?

The photos and video clips were from my own camera and camcorders...
Camera - Ricoh, camcorder Panasonic DVD 8 ...
Thankyou for your answers, Delll technicians were very helpful... we have tried a number of things but the problem persisted. Have mentioned to them about this as it was the only problem...
As also have google rundll32 and there is a virus by that name which also shocked me...
As you both mentioned I also didn't think it would be my VS disc either... and thought I make some final confirmation to clear my suspicion that it could be the installation of manufacturer's end, perhaps???
Thankyou will keep you posted in the next couple of weeks...
Cheers

Keeping all who are interesting posted with this topic....
Dell Technician and I found part of the problem with persisting appearance of dialog box on rundll32 not working while using VS 11+ import and also later found that even when accessing jpegs or mpegs from folders - dialog box appears.
The problem was not with Vista Home Basics os nor VS 11+.... I also have Nero 7 Essential which was provided (disc) when I bought an external disc writer (Samsung) Fantastic tool with lightscribe burning and fast DVD/CD copy.
Whatever Nero install programs has prevented a number of actions to other applications - was advised to do this....
Rename following two files in folder:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\"
NeVideo.ax -> NeVideo.ax.old
NeroVideoProc.ax -> NeroVideoProc.ax.old
Did all this operation earlier in the morning, can now import, view, edit etc etc with VS and also Windows Photo Gallery...
Now new problem appears with rundll32 while burning project on DVD - 18.47mins project... took about 40mins (sic*) and thru this period dialog box appeared twice...deleted/closed dialog each time and the last 15mins of burning it didn't appear... Check final disc on TV/DVDplayer - all seems fine...
Does anyone know where I can go to to try and get some Nero discussion group input on this??? As this is no more a Ulead/Corel product!!!

Much appreciated
