7 SE DVD avermeda error "no capture driver or no devise

Post by tadracket »

I have worked 3 days now on this and just can't get it. I installed my AverMedia DVD EZMaker Pro USB 2.0 drivers, updated them, updated VideoStudio 7 SE DVD and I still get this error message: "Either no video capture device is installed in this system or no device is connected". When I go to device manager, it shows the capture card in the sound, video and game controllers section and lists the device as OK. I have tried all 4 2.0 ports and updated them. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the capture cards drivers numerous times. I had this same problem on my Dell desktop but after a while, it started working good. Don't know what I did to make it work. Any help would be very much appreciated. This is a list of my notebooks specs:

AlienWare Area 51 Mobile 5620DS
P4 2.8 socket 478 533FSB
512 DDR PC2100
XP Pro (SP2 all updates except media player. Version 9 used)
Radion Mobility 9000
VIA VT6212 USB 2.0
Samsung CDRW/DVD
60GB hard drive (55 actual, 45 free) NTFS

any other info needed, please ask. I am bout to go out of my mind and it is probably something really simple and stupid like codecs or something. I have set it to MPEG and AVI, and I have played with other settings. I just can't get it to recognize the capture device. The software was bundled with the card btw. Thanks again for any help or suggestions at all.

Is their software that came with it to capture? That's usually the best route since it's designed to work with the device. Import into VS after you capture for editing.

Also there's a patch on their page... http://www.aver.com/support/faq_ezmaker_usb_2.shtml#Q10

It's pretty vague though, only says if you can't see the video. Doesn't state anything about the device being recognized.

The Aver card came with 3 disks; the driver disk, VideoStudio 7 SE DVD, and VideoStudio DVD Moviefactory 2. I have tried the card in both programs and it does not get recognized. The link you posted Coalman, is not for the Pro USB 2.0 but the standard(I guess) USB 2.0. I was curious as to wether those files will work with the Pro or not. I do not know the difference between the two devices. I am getting to the point that I will try about anything right now. Well no sleep last night so I am going to bed now. Tomorrow, I will try uninstalling the drivers and connecting to the laptop and let XP find and install the drivers(manual STRONGLY recommends against that). If that fails, I am going with the standard USB 2.0 files and see if that works. Thanks for the help Coalman. I think, with some experimenting and help from people like you, I will get this thing fixed.

I wouldn't use them unless they are for that device. There are drivers available for yours but nothing specific about connection issues.

Well I tried the regular drivers anyway, no help. I let XP find my driver, it couldn't. I installed and uninstalled 3 more times, useless. Avermedia was no help. Even after I told them what chipset I had, they sent me a list of chipsets and motherboards that are known to conflict with this device. In their defense though, I left the motherboard section blank because I don't know what it is. Maybe that is the problem. Well I am done with it. It will be installed permanently in my desktop and used as a TIVO device. Thanks for the help and if I do find a solution, I will post it. In the meantime, any other suggestions will be appreciated.

In VS7 click on "File" then in the drop down click on "Change Capture Plug-in". A box will open up with a drop down. See if your capture device is listed there and select it.
In MF2 on the capture screen there is a gear with a wrench icon labeled "Capture Settings" click on it and in the drop down click on "Change Capture Plug-in" A box will open up with a drop down. See if your capture device is listed there and select it.

I have a usb capture device that came with VS7se dvd and MF2se and sometimes they would "forget" what capture device I was using and I would have to follow the above steps to be able to capture.

AlienWare Area 51 Mobile 5620DS ..... go to there site.

BTW have you tried using a different application such as MS movie maker to see if it communicates with that?

Merlin, I have tried what you suggest and when I click on change capture plun-in, it shows no devices. I have also clicked on the gear in MV2 with same results.

Coalman, Alienware did not list the name of the motherboard manufacturer in my package or on their site. The notebook was made by Clevo I think and I don't know what MB they use. When I get home, maybe I will check out their site (@ school right now) and see if they have info. I ran Sandra SiSoft and for motherboard manufacturer it said something like "lan pci usb" there was more to it than that but basically it listed the ports in the notebook. Go figure, I thought that was bizaar. It listed the mem and chipset and USB etc, but no MB manufacturer. Thanks for the suggestions guys and you all keep 'em coming. Surely I am not the only person with this problem.

I also tried using MS movie maker with same results, No Device Detected.

LOL. Now your talking a language I can understand. I feel like I am at that point. But before I do that, I 'll stick it on ebay for pennies and buy me a Dazzle DVC150. That was what I wanted to start with but I thought I would save some money. The only reason I want it to work with my laptop is to do on-board video from my motorcycle and RC truck. Maybe I turn this one into tivo on the Dell and ask Santa for a Dazzle for Christmas. Then again, that was a sweet looking chopper you sent me Coalman. :D

OK, I gave up on the laptop. I figured today, I would go ahead and install the Avermedia USB pro and Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE on my other desktop. I got it to work on my Dell about 3 weeks ago, so I figured I would go in, install the drivers and be ready to rock. NOT. Same daggon problem with my laptop, I am getting on my other desktop. Here are the specs for my other desktop:

Alienware Area 51
2.4 P4 533 MHz FSB
1 gig RDRAMM
Intel 850 Chipset
NVidia FX 5200

My goal is to use the Dell XPS for gaming. It is newer and I have a much better graphics card in it. I want to use the Alienware desktop to record video from on line gaming for the clan my brother is in. We play Battlefield Vietnam and I want to make some videos of all of us playing. Like I said, the devise work with the Dell, so it is not the device. VS 7 SE also works on my Dell so I would think it is not the software. The drivers I am using for the Dell, I am also using for the other machines. I just don't remember the magic steps I took with the Dell to make it work. I read many articles on Ulead and Avermedia and thought I was getting a good setup. Surely I am not th eonly person to have this problem. I am open for more suggestions(as long as they don't involve garden tools :D ).
