Can't render project

Post by jwatkins »

I can't get DMF4 to complete the process of creating the files for burning a DVD. Tried two different computers. After the "Rendering will take some time" dialog box my machines typically reach about 50% completion after 15 minutes of processing. Then DMF4 exits with no warning or error box. I have DMF2 SE and it works but the content is lacking. It's very frustrating not to be able to complete the project...

Go to start>control panel>admistrative tools>event viewer>application and see if it logged an error. You may have to search for it, if you know the approximate date and time it should be easy to find.

How Many Titles?

Post by GeorgeW »

What step is it in when it bombs?

What are the properties of the videos you have on the timeline? Are they mpegs, .avis', other? And what codec are they -- DV .avi, DivX .avi, xVid .avi, etc...

How many titles are there, and how long do they all run (combined)?

If it's a converting issue, you have a nice new feature in DMF4 where you can export each video title separately to a video using your project's template. This could help isolate the "problem" title...

The export/render option is the 3rd icon down left of the timeline in the first step (the step where you add your videos).

Check if you have .mp3 audio as background music -- some folks have better luck if they convert them to .wav first.

Now it's gotten worse. When I start DMF4 and select my saved project it claims the .mpg file on disk has changed (it hasn't). I can't load the file at all and it loaded just fine during the two weeks since I created it (March 26). Even uninstalling DMF4 and reinstalling has no affect on the problem. My project is simply a 2 hour MPG2 file to which I am trying to add chapter points and menus. There were about 35 chapters (when it would load the file :( ).

Hi,

Have you checked the available RAM, Hard Drive space, and disc defraggmentation?

Also, get Enditall.http://www.xstudio.ca/pcsupport/system/ ... ement.html

Highly recommend it.

I'd exit out of MF4, then run EnditAll, then reopen.

Well for some reason DMF4 thought my 2 hour mpg file on disk had changed and wouldn't let me restart the project so I started over. This time I added only 9 chapter points in case it bombed out again. I did not add any music backgrounds to the menus and did not use any video enhancements. This time I was able to complete the rendering and creation of the Video_TS files on disk. I did not burn the disk but it is apparent that all worked OK.

Now I decided to enable the video enhancements and automatically added scene transitions at the 9 chapter points. This time the rendering process caused DMF4 to exit without any warning just as I noted in the original post. So I am unable to use the scene transitions right now. Could it be a resource issue? I have 500 MB RAM, 1200 MHz Athlon, 80G HD of which about 16G is free. I have tried running this without any other processes active and got the same results.

Creating the folders on disk takes about 40 minutes for a two hour DVD. Can anyone report how much faster a 3000 MHz processor might be? Would splitting the 2 hour mpg file help? Can DMF4 do this?

That's not bad time for the processor and system you have now.
A faster processor will not impress you because in order for you to
upgrade you will have to upgrade the whole machine.
Even at that a 3 ghz machine still takes about 15 to 20 minutes to create
the dvd folders.
Are you using "Motion Menus"? They take up alot of time to create.

MF4 has bugs.
New features are nice though.
