How long does a full DVD typically take to burn
I'm running MF3, and it's taking several hours to get through this "converting video title" part of the burn? is that typical? Seems like it's a little long.

What format are your original files? If you right click on them in the timeline and select properties you can see. Also, what is the audio as well as video properties?
Are they all the same format?
Did you click on "Do not convert compliant files"?
If they are DVD compliant MPEG files I can author a full DVD to a hard drive folder in about 20-30 minutes.
Burn as a separate step on 4X media in about 15 minutes.

Based roughly on a 90min project time is roughly 3hrs-3hrs15mins - but that is a project with just chapters - as many as 20 - but no menus - i couldnt be bothered setting them up for most projects unless I am making them into gifts for family. Ontop of that encoding time I sometimes use DVDShrink to make sure to files will fit exactly the standard 4.7DVDR disk - this could add an extra 45mins on top of original encoding though not necessary if I keep my project within 1hr30mins. Plus burning on Nero6 at x2 speed (I use Verbatium at the moment)
UleadMovieFactory3: 3hrs-plus
DVD Shrink: sometimes
Nero6: 30mins to burn dvd at x2 (plus few mins more to verify it).

What is your capture device?
What software do you use to capture?
What are your capture properties?
What are the clip properties?
My times are based upon no editing within DMF. I edit externally with Videoredo and Just create Titles and chapter points within DMF. No motion menus.
I also capture video directly in a DVD compliant MPEG2 format so no reencoding is needed.

The percentage they give you is not an accurate value. It just uses the current title divided by the total titles. For example if you had 4 total titles, and the first one was 55 minutes and the other three were 5 minutes each, the percentage would say 25% when the first one completed (1 divided by 4) even though in reality it is 79% done (55/70).kjenning wrote:It has now been 3.5 hrs, and I"m 55% complete with
"converting video title 4/7" is anyone else seeing this? or is this just how long it takes?
A full DVD can take 2-4 hours to render.
If I check the Do not convert compliant files (even though my files came directly off a mini-DVD), the program will crash during the rendering process -- so the only way for me to get it to work is by having the program convert all files.

I've found the program crashes because of the Dolby Audio.
Try changing the Project settings to Mpeg audio (keep the audio_bit_rate the same).
At least on my system it crashes when going from Dolby to Dolby.
MF3 usually handles Mpeg audio with no problems.
MF3 needs another patch.
This program has more patches than XP (well, almost).
