this is my first post so a hello to the forum users and thanks in advance for any help
i've been using the videostudio 10 software for a while now and have been noticing something that i've tried to ignore but is really bugging me, so i'm hoping someone can tell me if it is normal/fixable.
when i download from the camera and then play back the footage on the computer, there are periods where the image seems to stutter (for lack of a better word) and skip forward, it seems to get worse as it goes on.
also the quality of the image when played on the tv (after being burned to disc) is by far inferior to the image played directly from the camera to the tv.
i thought it might be insufficient memory but i have over 2 gigs of ram which should be more than enough.
is this normal, i expected better from this software
thanks very much for any guidance you can give

Since you give us no real information to go on, it is impossible to respond. Read the top sticky post that says 'Read this before posting' and come back with the information required. As a start, we definitely need to know what kind of camera you were capturing from, its format (mini DV, mini DVD, hard disc, analogue?), how you were capturing (USB, firewire, capture card?), what editing you were doing to it, and the project properties you used to burn the DVD. Without that information,it would be the merest speculation on our part since we are not there to see your equipment and work flow...

thanks for the reply Ken, sorry about the lack of info.
i have a panasonic nv-gs250 mini dv camera and use a USB cable to download. the prob seems to happen before i do any editing.
if i give a step by step as to how i download, i open the ulead software and go to the movie wizard option(with the camera attatched and turned on), then click on capture and "split by scene" is enabled
then i click the start capture icon and let it run until the end of the tape at which time it automatically stops and splits the scenes automatically, i then click the 'next' icon.
on the next screen i'd usually disable the music and click next again to get to the screen with the 'edit in ulead videostudio editor' and click this
it's on these individual clips that appear in the library that the jerks/stutters occur (that aren't on the original tape) so it's obviously something in these steps above that causes the problem.
i've tried to include everything here but being a techno dunce i'm sure i'll aggravate someone with my lack of detail so apologies and thanks again

As Guy says, use firewire.
Check your pc to see if you have one fitted, see the section here that says "the pc"

or pictures of firewire ports

Using the USB cable will at most only allow the transfer of streaming quality video i.e. relatively low and mainly only suited for sending over the internet. With many cameras, indeed, you only use the USB to transfer still images taken by the camera. Only a handful of very expensive mini DV cameras will allow you to capture high quality video via their USB 2.0 connections, and I don't think your camera falls into that category.
The only way of capturing such high quality DV is by using firewire, as the previous two posters have said. The only problem is that no camera manufacturer of which I am aware ever includes a firewire cable in the bundle -- only a USB cable, thus giving the user the idea that this is what is to be used.
Your camera will definitely have a small, 4 pin Firewire socket -- your manual might call it either an i-Link or IEEE1394 socket. If your computer does not have one, then the good news is that they are cheap and easy to install in a spare AGP slot. Make sure you get the correct cable with it -- one with a 4 pin plug for the camera end and a larger 6 pin plug for the computer end. You will be amazed at the difference in quality!!

i've installed the firewire and it's working well (thanks for that).
i now notice that if i try using the 'Multi trim Video' option to edit footage it causes the edited scenes to become jerky.
if i give a step by step it might help clarify things
i open a project (a tape i've recently downloaded and saved to the hard drive), then highlight one of the scenes (that it was broken down into in the 'split by scene' option when downloading) then click 'multi trim video' (here it sometimes says that the clips attributes will be reset to default settings before i can proceed to multi trim.. is this a clue to the problem?)
on the multi trim video page, i click the left bracket [ at the place i want the footage to start, move the cursor to where i want it to end and press the right hand bracket ]. i repeat this later in the footage if there is more that i want and then click OK and it returns to the timeline but it's these now edited clips that run jerkily.
i know i'm being an idiot but i 'm hoping someone can tell me how to be less of an idiot
thanks again in advance
