Wave data causes instability since installing 11.5 PowerPack

Post by maxfrost01 »

I'm running VS 11.5 on Windows Vista and have to say I was very impressed with what seemed to be a more stable system than I'd had with v10.
My excitement mounted with the announcement of the PowerPack - surely things were just getting better and better.
But no.
Since installing the PowerPack as advocated by SJJ.......
"It leads you to the member log on screen on the Corel Website from where you can download a file
UVS11_Plus_ESD_ENG_PowerPack.exe 55,218 KB
The other update has a filename
UVS11_Patch_Eng.exe 27,673 KB"
........I have found VS unstable when loading wave data.
It takes an age to load and if I date to click on anything else during loading it inevitably results in an error message where the only option is to close 11.5 and reopen.
Sometimes when I try to reopen 11.5 it refuses and I have to log off and log on again before it will work.

VS11.5 appears to have gone all sulky and temperamental on me.
Feel like I've gone backwards.

Anyone had similar issues?

Max.

No I haven't...

Did you make sure that your DirectX is current? Go to Microsoft's website and download the most recent for Vista, which I believe is DirectX 10.

What order did you install the patch and powerpack? The patch needs to be installed before the powerpack.

Next have you downloaded and installed the "hotfix?. If you install this, do this before installing any patches or fixes. Make sure you have any custom libraries backed up first.

Hi, Vidoman

Thanks for your help on this.

Replying to your points:

1. I'm pretty sure that I have the latest version of Direct X as it always seems to be coming at me from a pop-up bar in IE. Do you know how I can check what version I have BEFORE I check on the Microsoft website? I'd be interested to know if I have an old version before I download the new.
2. I THINK I installed the PowerPack before the patch. Would that make a difference? If so, how can I correct this?
3. I have NOT downloaded the hotfix. Do I need to?

Thanks again,

Max

REad the notes that follow the hotfix. It is only for people who have had one specific problem in installing the program in the first place. That does not seem to include you, so you don't use the hotfix...

As for DirectX, if you have Vista, you have DirectX 10. The November update adds certain features to it, but it remains DirectX 10. You can, in any case, check the version number by running dxdiag in the Start Search window down in the bottom left of the Vista screen.

Thanks, Ken.

What about the sequence of the PowerPack and the patch? Does it make a difference and if so what do I do to correct it?

I have no real idea if it makes a difference. The first time I downloaded them, the patch had come out some time before the Power Pack, so naturally I installed the patch first, and then the Power Pack later when it was released. And I have kept that order in subequent reinstalls.

Logic would in any case suggest that since the update patch was meant to correct faults in VS11/11+, it should be applied first, before a Power Pack which upgrades VS11+ to VS11.5... But since the Power Pack does not appear to show up separately in the Add/Remove Programs part of Control Panel, the only remedy I can think of is the traditional full uninstall and reinstall... in the correct order.

Hi, Ken

I've uninstalled and reinstalled VS11+ and downloaded the patch. I now have a more stable system.

I'm holding back from installing the PowerPack. I guess it might work now that I've used the right sequence but is the possible pain worth the gain?

Looking at the website there is one PowerPack benefit that interests me..........

"HD DVD on standard DVD
Create HD DVD productions with motion menus and burn onto standard DVDs using an improved workflow."

.......but I think I'm already doing this! I'm editing HD film and then burning it onto a standard DVD as HD DVD and I'm able to play it back on a fairly basic (though new) DVD player.

Am I missing out on some great additional benefit or is this a plug for something I already have in v11+
