Insanely Stupid Question About Adding Music

Post by ChristmasGrinch »

I just purchased Video Studio 11 Plus for Vista. With it, I was able to upload a family video that's been transferred to DVD, and I've been able to multi-trim and edit the piece. My problem is with the stupid music bed that was laid down when the video was created. How can I get rid of the cheesy music and replace it with the music I want to add?

Before you ask, I unfortunately don't have access to the original sources (super 8 and slides). The video was done as an anniversary present, and the sources were destroyed. (This was back before I met my husband and back when we all thought VHS was forever! ).

At my wits end. HELP!!!

Also, the help function doesn't work on the version of VS I downloaded... I'm a mess, I know!

Are you simply trying to mute the audio in the video or remove pieces of it?
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

select the clip in the timeline and then click on the speaker button beside the clip length and volume properties. That will mute the sound of your clip. You would then insert music into the timeline.

If you have the full version of VS11, it should have come in three parts -- the main program, an Extra Contents file, and a Bonus Features file. The Help files should have been in the second package. In any case, go to the Ulead.com website and click on Downloads across the top, then select Product Documents, and follow the prompts to VS11, and you can download the Manual for it which is very similar to the Help files...

And a note of clarification, when Guy told you to put the new audio into the timeline, he meant of course into one of the two audio tracks of the timelines e.g. the one with the two musical notes beside it. You could even use the other one to add voiceover comments if you wanted...

and other responses I've seen on this board... I have a single video file with embedded audio, and I want to replace the audio completely. I've imported the .WAV audio that I want to a music track, lined it up with the video, go to the video and click "Play". I get the bad audio that is embedded in the video, and nothing from the .WAV.

I click the MUTE button for the video, and I get NO SOUND. The .WAV audio does not play, nor does the audio embedded in the video.

The only way I hear my .WAV file is to click on that music track separately and click PLAY. Then I get the audio but no video.

When I click on the Video to click Play, I get video but no sound.

In general, the methods described to Replace Audio aren't working. I'm using V11plus. Among everything else I can think of, I've tried splitting the audio from the video, setting its volume to 0, setting the video's volume to 0, deleting the separated audio... Regardless of the method, I either get No Audio, or I continue to get the Audio embedded in the video.

Any new suggestions? The simple logic of muting the video clip, and using an imported music track just isn't working.

Thank you!

When yuo try to playback with the video muted and the new wav file in the timeline with the video are you in "project" mode when you try it?

Just below the preview screen are two buttons, the one on top labelled 'Project' and the one below it labelled 'Clip'. You have to select 'Project' the able to play the combination of everything in the timeline as it will eventually look and sound on the DVD. If you are still in Clip mode, on the other hand, you will only see or hear the last thing that was selected (i.e. highlighted).
