Ok so I picked up a Canon HG10 and installed MF5 and got the update and installed that as well. Then I imported my AVCHD files and went to step 3 and hit burn.
It seems to work fine then about 5 mins in and it just stops ... it doesn't crash tho ... just gets to 99% right before its about to burn the files to disc and it just stops. The DVD drive is spinning at max and the harddrive light on my PC is solid but my CPU activity is like %1 .... I left it there for about 20 mins and it still didn't do anything. My PC is no slug so 20 mins of it doing nothing means something isn't right.
Then I tried to stop the MF5 app and of course the app stops but the DVD drive and the harddrive are still working at full speed for no reason at all.
I had to shut the PC down to get the DVD drive to stop (pushing eject did nothing)
So I was reading about just using MF5 to make the Video_TS folder so I could then use Nero to burn the actual DVD (Nero works great)
So I go through the steps and on step 3 the "create disk" is grayed out (with a check mark might I add) and it seems the only option I have is to make a DVD disk?
Can someone please tell me how to just make the VOB files on my PC?
btw the HG10 rocks ... too bad the apps that come with it don't.
MF5 ... not working well at all.

To create a "Disc" on your hard drive folder you need to select the option
"Create DVD Folders" the following screen shot is from VideoStudio

The procedures are so similar when comparing VideoStudio and MovieFactory that I only saw the necessity to write one tutorial which is shown at this link:
Authoring a DVD
Regarding the computer apparantly freezing up towards the end of the disc burn, there are several possible reasons why this might occur, the favourite being a faulty DVD Drive or faulty DVD Disc.
