problem exporting projects to another pc

Post by col1969 »

Hi folks,

I am currently running Videostudio 11.5 Plus on my Vista laptop, but I think it is struggling to cope. So I want to copy my 1 project (made up of many clips) onto my powerful Wins XP pc (licence note - yes I intend to remove the laptop version of the software).

Ive installed the software successfully & relinked everything on the new pc but it appears to be playing some of the clips right from 1st frame whilst in the original project many of the clips aren't set to play from the 1st frame.

I think the clips that are playing correctly are ones where I cut out the piece I wanted from the original thus creating a new clip which is being referenced by the new project, whilst those playing from the 1st frame are those original clips where I just used the locators to play a portion of the clip.

Is there any way (apart from going back & making new clips) I can get the new project to import the clip locator settings so that all the new project's clips start from the correct place?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated

VS11.5+ has a package project feature.
It's in the users manual or under FILE (from the top menu)

How do you edit video on two different computers?

Post by westlight »

I saw your post and wanted to see how you managed to work on 2 PC's.
I'm working on one video and have many edited clips stored in different libraries. Polar Bear 1. Polar Bear 2, etc... I can open the .vsp "project" file and the clips that I've inserted into the timeline appear but my different libraries do not appear. The video project file and all the original video clips are stored on a portable hard drive, and the drive letter is the same when connected to either PC. Are "libraries" that we create stored somewhere else, perhaps on the C: drive where the program files are installed. I also tried saving the project file using the "Smart Package" feature with the same results.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi David

Read your original post on the library subject

nope can't get this to work.
Created a smart package easily enough, but had to copy the project file across manually.

When I try and open the project with Relink Checking & Smart Search checked it usually crashes whilst doing this with the error message.

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.0 ModName: ulspdec.dll
ModVer: 2.0.0.1 Offset: 00001048

On occasion I have managed to relink all the files & saved the project (sometimes as a new project), but upon trying to open again I get the same message.

As for the other advice here I don't appear to have this folder

C:\Users\Colin\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\(Version number)

A search on my pc of the 'roaming' folders only contains a Microsoft sub-folder.

Also I didn't have any files called

VS_Video.dat
VS_Image.dat etc.

any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Colin

ps sorry for the lack of system info - my other pc isn't connected to the internet. I can provide this info if necessary providing I know what is exactly required and where / how to obtain it

Hi Colin

The library file VS_Video.dat has to exist, it is part of the VS software.

If you are using XP as indicated earlier then look here

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio

Or do a search for them.

The library files are only thumbnails, a virtual clip of the files on the hard drive.
Do not get too confused with these files as you don¡¦t seem to be having a problem with the library anyway, but it is nice to know where they are.

OK

You said in your first post that you had successfully copied the project and files to the new PC.
Successfully linked the files.
The problem was playing the clips from the beginning, indicating that the ¡¥play locators¡¦ may be the problem.
Well I don¡¦t have version 11 and not familiar with ¡¥Play locators¡¦ Others may be able to help here.

So if all was well on the 12th what happened to cause the crashes on the 13th?

Trevor / sjj

Thanks for the advice and fast response.

I did do a search in the Knowledge base after my last mail & downloaded & installed this patch -

HotFix Patch

http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... _Issue.exe

is this the same one you suggested?

Anyhow I'm afraid it didn't work, project crashed second time opening.

Trevor,

sorry I only did a search on the Vista machine, I'll try that search again.

I think my original problem with the locators was becasue I wasn't using the smart package option which I am now, with everything in a brand new folder on the new XP pc.

Regarding your comment -

"So if all was well on the 12th what happened to cause the crashes on the 13th?"

sorry I should expand on this. Sometime VS crashes when I try to link, other times it will load files ok & play. But Ive never been able to open & play successfully twice in a row, basically it's v unstable and unworkable.

Not sure where to go from here but appreciate the help.

Thanks a lot

Colin

Hi Colin

Now it makes sense.
Video Editing software is very demanding on a pc¡¦s resources.

And your not gonna like this, It is highly probable that the crashes are due to your pc and not VS. (No I do not work for them.)

Saying that I do not own VS 11 and cannot comment on its stability.

I only know that the earlier versions were stable, at least for me. (vs 5 to 10)

I assume you have done the standard tests, defrag all drives, virus checks, clean install of VS etc.

OK
Steve has created a pc profile for VS. This allows you to create a dedicated OS for Video Editing.
I cannot find the details at the moment, but I am sure Steve will reply.

Trevor,

well I downloaded & installed that new patch, still had the problem.

And I don't think it's a performance issue.

My XP pc is -

OS - Wins XP Home Sp2
Graphics - not sure
Sound - External Edirol FA101
Processor - Pentium 4 3.4Ghz
HDD - 200Gb
Memory - 2Gb SD Ram

It's a pc tailored & tweaked for running music apps (specifically Cubase) & when VStudio is ruuning it's much faster than my general purpose Dell Vista laptop.

Anyway I think I may have tracked down the culprit - I noticed VS was abending with that error on the same MP4 file each time. Ive removed the file and hey presto - Ive opened up the project about half a dozen times now and no problems. so fingers crossed.

But thanks again, youve all been very helpful, you especially Trevor

Kind Regards,

Colin

Hi,

Just thought I'd post an update on this, someone might find it useful.

Ive decided to scrap the idea of running this on my Wins XP pc as it's just too unstable.

I think the problem (or one of them) may have something to do with my sound module. I have onboard sound disabled as I use an Edirol external sound 'card'. I think this may be why I am unable to adjust the clip volume within VS - the button is just greyed out & when I try to click on it VS just freezes up.

Now there may be a solution to this but my pc is first and foremost for making music & as such has been heavily tweaked by the company I bought it from to this end, so whilst I'm sure it's possible to get to the bottom of my VS problems, I really don't want to be changing settings and twaeking stuff at the risk I might cause instability in my music programs.

Anyway thanks for the support on here, it was much appreciated.
