Videostudio 11.5 Plus Upgrade Pricing Confusion
I've just tried to buy the upgrade from the Ulead.co.uk website at the listed price of 30.68 UKpounds. Unfortunately when you click through to the Corel store the price changes to 33.68 UKpounds before VAT (try and see). When I spoke to the Corel sales suport person she told me to go away because they didn't support anything on the Ulead website. You have been warned! I'm taking my custom elsewhere.
Yes. When I asked to buy it at the price advertised on the Ulead site they said that they didn't support the Ulead site and that if I wanted to get a better price than on the Corel site, I should try Amazon and not bother them. Then they put the phone down.
BTW there is also mispricing for the full download version of 11.5 Plus so it's not just a one-off.

RegardsCorel Spokeswoman wrote:Because we have two sites, http://www.ulead.com and http://www.corel.com, during the merge of two companies, it occurs some mistakes. We are deeply sorry for that. By the way, we have already reported this problem and our company made a decision that we will only keep one site, and ulead website (UK/DE/FR) will be closed soon.
For http://www.ulead.com (American site), it will close in next year.

Steve, thank you for posting their reply. One can understand the problems inherent in merging 2 companies but Corel should still consider it a goodwill gesture to honour the prices posted on their sites. They have been in no hurry to change the mispricing (how hard could that be!).
They should be aware that in the UK there is a Code of Practice for internet retailers. The Code provides guidance for businesses on how to comply with the relevant provisions of the Consumer Protection Act. The CPA makes it a criminal offence to give consumers a misleading price indication about goods, services, accommodation or facilities. The offence is punishable by a fine of up to £5,000. The Code is not mandatory, but a trader's compliance or non-compliance with the Code will be taken into account by a court in deciding whether an offence has been committed under the CPA.
If they do nothimg about this mispricing and continue to refuse to honour the posted prices, I think that a court would probably rule them in breach of the CPA.

Corel making a mess of a great company and products
I am alarmed to be reading that Corel plan to shut down all the Ulead websites and make everyone goto corel.com. Having visited corel.com I could only find Ulead VS11,PhotoImpact 12 and DVD Moviefactory 6 for sale. There was no sign of DVD Workshop 2 one of the best creation tools available. This is very scary as I have been recommending ulead but it looks like in the future I will have to find new products when DVDWS2 becomes dated.
I hope someone from corel reads this and realises that they should put all the products from the ulead sites onto their new site.

If any UK users are thinking of upgrading to 11 Plus, there is a way to achieve a small discount on the price now being officially offered by Corel for the download version of 33.68 + VAT. On the front page of the Ulead.co.uk site, instead of clicking on the 11.5 Plus logo on the left, click on the Upgrade Center on the right. This takes you through a process which seems to offer a price of 34.99 pounds for the upgrade but in fact, after filling in previous version reg number details, gives you a price of 30.62 for the upgrade to 11 Plus. Once you have that product you can download the free Powerpack and upgrade to 11.5 in the process.
It sounds complicated and probably hardly worth it for most people but you get the satisfaction of a (small) victory over the Corel bureaucracy. It also shows up the disconnects in the Corel/Ulead site.
They don't seem to monitor this forum so it will be interesting to see if they work out the mess that their pricing is in before they close down ulead.co.uk.
