URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE...Glitches with Sound

Post by EmK »

Hi, I have Videostudio 10 and I have a problem with the sound. I have never posted on here before, but have often read through the forum and found lots of helpful info. I need urgent help with this as I do wedding DVDs and this is an issue with one of my clients wedding tape - in particular throughout the speeches.

The sound is fine directly from the mini DV tape, however once captured, there are glitches in the sound throughout the entire project (not constant, comes and goes). It probably should be noted here, that there is not glitches in the sound where I have inserted music files and muted the actual captured audio.

It is also there once I create the Disk for DVD - played from the DVD on a DVD player rather than the computer, the glitches are the same. I have also tried creating an AVI file first and then burning to DVD Disk, but still have the same issue.

Please help ASAP. Thanks.

Bingo.. You need the Vista update. And please visit the "please fill out the system info" portion of the web site. No applauds needed, just common sense generated..

Thanks heaps for the fast reply. However, I downloaded the vista patch a while ago. I have also done a fair few DVDs using Vista and Video Studio 10 since downloading the patch and never had a problem with the sound glitches before. Any other ideas??? Thanks.

You don't say what the glitches sound like. Are they sharp pops every now and then? Or is it badly distorted? In either case it could be a product of your using the Type 2 DV encoder instead of Type 1. Right click on one of the captured clips within VS, either when the clip is on the timeline or in the Library pane. That will tell you which type Encoder you used. If it is indeed Type 2, then change it to Type 1 and capture a reasonable amount. Play that back and see if the glitches are still there. If not, I am afraid you would then need to capture all your clips again as Type 1 DV.

Thanks for your response. It is is type 1, so I guess thats OK. I am really stressing out here. I have even uninstalled the program and reinstalled again and that still has not fixed the problems.

To answer the question above the glitches are hard to describe. I guess the best way is to say that it is almost like a pause in the audio for a split second with the footage still running normally. You can still understand what is being said, but it sounds terrible overall.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I am really stressed about this whole thing and have spent hours and hours on it and have not come up with anything.

Have you tried recapturing the portions where you have glitches in the sound?

Does this still have a glitch in exactly the same place?

If no, sync up and away you go.

If yes, then try another capturing app, like movie maker or windv.

If yes, and you have the facilities try capturing the tape via the analogue outputs into your pc.

If yes, thenI think it may be an underlying problem with the tape recording which isn't detected just on playing the tape and you are stuck with it.

If there are hundreds of problems, you may find capturing the whole tape again and inserting the audio portion in will be easier.

Needless to say, and I expect you do already as you say you do wedding videos, ensure you have no background apps running at all during capture, make sure your electrical feeds aren't interfering with your pc, so someoone turns a light on and you get interference etc etc.

You could also try capturing with a free, tiny program which a number of us here use, called WinDV. You can download it from windv.mourek.cz and if you have problems with that, then the problem clearly is not with VS but with your hardware...

Once captured with WinDV, and if it is OK, then simply open and edit with Video Studio...

...and to borrow at least a part of Skier-Hughes comment (though I am not sure about his repeats!) "...away you go"!!!
