I capture raw avi in vs10 (no compression) but it plays back black. It plays fine in windows media player and vs11. What do I need to do.
VS 11 won't capture anything through Easycap USB dongle. VS 10 will capture but not play captured avi.

I presume the VS10 is the SE version which came bundled with the dongle. It's possible that VS11 doesn't recognise the device. If you have the full VS11, you might try applying all the recent patches and updates. Some of those might work with the TBYB version.
What are you capturing from?
Capturing to raw, uncompressed avi results in a lot of hard drive usage. Do you have other options, and do you get the same problem if you capture to those, eg mpeg-2, dv type 1 or type 2 avi?
I suspect the instruction manual with your device will use an odd variant of English!

Frustratingly, I have looked at the main EasyCap website, and several others which review it. Only one comments on the ability to change the capture format but gives no clue as to how to do it, and the specifications are all simply taken from the EasyCap website which only give what they say are output formats.
However, in the supplied VS10SE, on the capture page, can you not change the selection from 'AVI' to, say, DVD in the drop down? That would allow you to capture direct to DVD-compatible mpeg-2 which should be of good quality and also save a lot of hard disk space?
I too suspect VS10SE has been tweaked to work with the device. This is done by a lot of hardware manufacturers. But once captured, you could open the video in VS11 for editing...

Thanks for your replies.
I guess I need to fork up some dough for vs11. It's an inconvenience, but it does the second part of the task anyway.
