"Either no video capture driver is installed .."

Post by Isonisak »

I try to connect Canon MV700i video camera to Win XP SP2 thru
firewire (Gembird IEEE1394) and VideoStudio10 / Movie wizad /
Capture throws a MsgBox
"Either no video capture driver is installed in this machine or no device is conneced"

In computers Device Manager card is shown as
"OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller"
but I cannot find Canon MV700i anywhere there.

Do I need some driver software or what ?

No, should work, I use a MV750i into XP home SP2 and XP pro, into VS10

with camera connected, switched to play, VS10 reconises camera and gives me control from keyboard.

Hopefully someone will be of more help.

Do you have windows movie maker, may have come with SP2, will that capture ?

Edit - 15 minutes later: just playing on the laptop with XPpro, with camera (MV890) connected (& on), opened "my computer" and camera shown as device (with hard drives etc).
Opened this and able to use camera as web cam & capture still frames from it, I have surprised myself, will try this on desktop with XP Home.

Edit2: days later......yep, works on desktop, XP home SP2.

if your camera is reconised by the operating system then you are almost there. takes a few minutes to notice.

Is it turned on?

Excuse me if you are already doing this, but you are switching your MV700 to "play", aren't you? It has to be powered up for the pc to recognise it.

I realise that I am repeating MickBoy's recommendation in his response, but you might have missed seeing "switched to play" in that post.

If you are indeed powering the camcorder on and switching it to "play" mode without it being recognised, you might try another Firewire cable - or try your cable on another system if you have access to one. It's not unknown to have a bad cable. Do also try capturing with Windows MovieMaker or the freeware WinDV too.

Good luck!

Problem was solved simply by connecting the camera to powersource and not using only accumulator ! SO the camera didn't get enough current from accu.
This appeared also as blinking "DV IN" text in camera.
