Application Error

Post by RTR1944 »

I have VS10+ and when I start working with a previous project, I keep getting this application error: The instruction at "0x0c377545" referenced memory at "0x0c377545." The memory could not be "read." Click on OK to terminate the program or click on CANCEL to debug the program." Both of these options shut down the program. I have tried restarting the computer, shutting the computer down, and nothing seems to work.

HELP!! - I'm getting real frustrated!

We need more information. Can you actually open the project? If so, at what point in the editing do you receive the message? Is it the same place every time? What sort of video clips are included in the project?

It would also be useful if you ran a RAM test to ensure that your RAM is not failing, which is what a message like yours can sometimes mean. And RAM can fail, regardless of how new it might be. Do a Google search for RAM tests -- Microsoft has a free one for instance. You install it either on a floppy or a CD, then boot your computer on it. Let it run for several entire passes because sometimes an emerging error in RAM will only appear in one of the tests and after several passes.

I can open the project but I can't do much before it gives me the error message. It is early, not exactly at the same time but close. The video clips are off my camcorder if that's what you meant when you said "What sort of video clips are included in the project?"

This discussion sounds familiar and I may have posted it before but I can't seem to find the discussion. I recall that I didn't have to do the RAM test but I can't remember how it got solved (maybe it's not solved after all!)

My son, who works in the computer industry and who has been here for the holidays, ran MEMTEST 86+ for 22 hours with no errors. Do you have any other suggestions?

Is there any way someone could respond to this fairly quickly? My son is willing to help me but we need your input. He goes home on January 3rd.

Does this happen only with this particular project or with Video Studio in general?

Have a look at windows "event viewer" it logs all system/program crashes. You might pick up some clues here.

I'm guessing if your son works in the computer industry he may have already checked these.

Yesterday it worked fine - today same problem on both projects (only doing 2 now). Yesterday, I was able to burn a DVD of an old project - today I can't - the program just shuts down without any warning.

I'll have my son check the Event Viewer thought tomorrow before he leaves

In all of this, you have never told us what videos you have included in the problem projects -- where the video came from, its properties, and exactly what editing has been done. Since you have successfully burned an old project, then at least we know VS will work with some of your video. So it is a matter of working out what in your new projects is causing it to choke. If, for instance, you have highly compressed formats like DivX or XVid (which call themselves .avi files), but don't have the correct codec on your computer, VS will choke. If you have an mpeg-2 file which is corrupt in some minor part, VS will choke...

Hello... Helping my father out here.

To answer your questions my dad is using MPEG2 and AVI files. Nothing compressed and the event logs are clean. The AVI camed directly from the camcorder he used and the MPEG2 came from a DVD. Both were then imported into VS.

There isn't anything out of the ordinary that would indicate any problems with system stability in general. Based on the event logs this is the only application that is repeatedly having issues.

The issue appears to be very random as we have been trying to repro for the last 15 minutes and can't make it occur which leads me to believe that there is not any problems with the source files or the projects.

Since this error is not repeatable at will (ie occurs randomly) do you have any debuggers that can be run against VS to capture what memory space VS wants and can't get access to?

Thanks.
