VS8 -Split by Scene option and other probs

Post by srj1957 »

VS8 ...Sony MiniDV, Win XP Prof, 100gb hard drive, 1ghz ram

VS8 does not allow me to chose the Split by Scene option....I try to click on it but nothing changes.

Firewire connection drops after about 10 mins of Capturing Video...error msg is " Cannot detect device"

When I change the output from DV to MPEG etc ...it takes a few times clicking on the format i want before it accepts my choice, it just resets itself to DV...any one having these problems ?

My first guess would be a loose, or failing Firewire cable, and possibly the Firewire itself. Since it does start transferring data but the signal is lost. Does your OS appear as if it is loosing the signal too? Try using the free capture utility called WinDV. It works with Firewire only, and captures DV. Several of us use it over VS or MSP capture. If you still have problems with the transfer being dropped, then it would rule out VS, and point to the cable or your system.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, on both the camera and your PC. Press it in firmly. Try capturing again.

Thanks for the quick response..I'll try WinDV and keep you posted.
not sure what you mean by "...Does your OS appear as if it is loosing the signal too..." How do I test that ?

Do you have info on the other issues I'm having
