Lardge file

Post by brocot »

I recorded 2 films from TV playing on the same channel. So i have e file 13 Gb large. The file play fine white NERO Showtime. So i think, the file is not corrupt.
Importing in VS studio makes the program stopping. Only Ctrl + Alt + Del cane stop the program.
Is this because of the large file ? What to do to now ?

thanks

Welcome to the forums,

What to do now?

Please read this post, and return with as much of the information as possible.
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8959

You have told us that you recorded 2 shows and have a 13 gig file. Is that 2 ½ hour shows for a total of 1 hour of video, or is that 2 1 hour, 2 2 hours shows? That could have helped determine the next question..

What file format?

If you had 1 hour of video, and the file is 13 gig, I would suspect the format to be DV (avi), since it takes up about 13gig per hour of video. However if you have a 13 gig file and 4 hours of video, then it could be one of several other file formats, which are very highly compressed.

Anyway please go to the page in the link provided above, read and post back the requested information, so we have some information to work with...;)

I don't think it's the file size. And since you haven't had problems with similar files before, I suspect that your file is corrupted. It's not unusual for corrupt file to play OK, but to cause problems when you try to edit or convert it... I call it "sneaky corruption".

I've frequently had trouble editing MPEG-2 files, and I ended-up buying a special-purpose MPEG editor. (I still use Corel/Ulead for other tasks, including authoring & burning DVDs.)

You might try editing the file with Nero. You can split the file into two programs to get smaller files, and if you save the file with a different bitrate (with Nero), you will force a re-code, and the re-coding might fix the corruption. If you want to squeeze the programs onto DVDs, here's an online Bitrate Calculator.

VideoReDo and Womble are special-purpose MPEG editors. Both of these programs have tools that can repair some MPEG files, and both offer a free trial.
