I am new to MF6+. I created a very simple short video with a menu and burned it to a DVD-R disc.
It plays great in WinDVD 8.
It play terrible in Windows Media Player. The video is out of focus and a big frame around the video window shows up. This seems like it should be just black but seems to flash a bit of white on and off.
I must have a wrong codec for Windows Media Player, but not sure.
Also, I lloked at the files on teh DVD and wonder how I can get these to play using QuickTime. The file extensions are new to me.
Any help will be appreciated; thanks.
DVD Played with Windows Media Player Looks Poor
If windvd plays the video and your dvd player on your tv plays the dvd correctly then WMP is using codec's that aren't compatible with WMP.It plays great in WinDVD 8.
This is so standard for WMP to do. You would think you could tell WMP want codecs to use for playback. I don't have an answer without a page full of computer tech hacks that shouldn't be necessary to have to do.
Not that windows is bad at this, but windows is bad at this.

You did burn a stadard dvd video disc?
So it has folders Video_TS and Audio_TS?
As you have dvd playing software installed you have the mpeg2 codec installed which WMP should pick up and use.
Which version of windows?
Which version of WMP?
If you don't have the latest WMP you could try installing the latest version.
Do you have the latest direstX installed for your version of windows?
Latest graphics card drivers?
Or the easy option is to forget WMP and just use Windvd.
Why do you want to use Quicktime?

Yes, I did burn a DVD-R disc and it has the Video_TS and Audio_TS files. It plays fine on WinDVD and on my DVD recorder/player on the TV set.
My version of WMP 11.0.5721.5230. I am using Windows XP Professional
I will do some more digging to resolve this. You asked about QucikTime and why I woudl want to use that. The beauty of QuickTime is that it does a pretty good job of buffering content as it is being streamed. My interest if more for web based presentations.
Thanks for your help.

Re Quicktime - you don't stream a dvd?
Streaming from the web involves a streaming server, if this is set up properly I haven't noticed any real difference in the streaming capabilities of WMP or Quicktime.
I'm not sure Quicktime supports the viewing of dvd movies, even with Quicktime Pro. I think if you buy the mpeg2 decoder from Apple you can watch the movie, but you can't hear the audio if AC3 has been used - so pretty useless as a dvd watching programme.
Have you tried rolling back to WMP10 to see if the problem is with that as well?
Check the codecs on your pc using WMP11,

This may help, but not sure if it works seperately with WMP11
