Unable to switch to capture mode - HELP

Post by jparnold »

Hi guys,
I have been using XP HOME SP2 plus VS 10 PLUS for over one year and have NEVER encountered this error before.
4 weeks ago I was able to capture video without any problem but tonight I get -
Unable to switch to Capture Mode
Check if your video capture driver is working properly
Failed to build a preview graph.
I have searched the forums and found many other posts for this same error but found no help.
There is PLENTY of space on the device/folder I want to capture to (ie 18 GB) and have it selected as Working Folder
When I connect my camcorder Windows detects it correctly and it is dispalyed in VS as Panasonic -- MSDV with Format DV and the capture folder is correct.
Strange thing is that when I use VS9 I do NOT get the problem. I prefer using VS10+.
So what has happened since the last time ( 4 weeks ago) that I was able to capture video without this error message?
Hoping for a quick fix as I have a lot of work (capture/editing) to do.
I will uninstall/reinstall as a last resort but was hoping for a reason for this error.

Well if you have work to do the best thing would be to capture with VS9, import into VS10 and edit away.
Then try capturing again in a day or two, after the pc has been turned on and off a couple of times.
Then when you've done all your work and it's still not capturing, look at the items others who use VS on a regular basis have to suggest. Which I'm sure they will!!!

Guess what?
The problem went away.
I had closed VS10+, opened VS9, noted that the problem didn't happen, closed VS9, opened VS10+ again, tried again same problem, closed VS10+ checked a few things (can't remember everything but did disconnect the camera once or twice, also might have tried VS9 again) then opened VS10+ again and the problem has GONE.
VERY STRANGE.
Any ideas anyone (in case it happens again)?

It's a computer........ what do you expect!!!!!!

I should think that when vs10 opened it failed to open properly and closing it down and maybe opening vs9 just made it work.
