I purchased the Sony hdr-sr8 which records audio in 5.1 channels. (not your dolby dig DTS quality but good enough)
Well I imported the video into VS11 and was able to do my editing. I rendered the video in WMV 9 like I have done with my slide shows, streamed it to my x360 and was pleased...that is until I noticed sound was only coming from my right and left speaker. I went back to the rendering options and noticed that I didn't select 5.1 so I did...
Nothing happens, VS renders the video but when it gets to about 60% it just stops. So I tried another video clip I recorded with the camera, that doesn't even get past 7% before it just stops. No errors just quits.
VS shows in the properties that the clip has 5.1 channels so I am a little confused. Googling around the net I wonder... my mobo (asus a8v) has a built in sound card that I use, according to the manual it is capable of 8 channel. Now my pc setup is not using that, I am merely running 2.1.
Is my issue my sound card?? I can use the Built in Ulead DVD 5.1 DD and that renders just find, however since I dont have 5.1 speaker set up nor can it be streamed to the x360, I can't test it (though I should try to burn it to a dvd for testing, which I may).
What am I doing wrong?? Do I need to purchase a better sound card? I already tried reinstalling all of the audio codecs on my pc, I even crashed my OS ( thank god for ancrois). I am lost
Thanks (sorry it is so long)

Hmmm WMV with 5.1 sound.
I had to Google that as I am not at my video editing machine to see if it is possible using VideoStudio - I always associated 5.1 with DVD's.
Like you I have not set any of my computers up for surround sound output though they are capable.
I found this article which may be of use - looks like all the tools are free but you will need to double check.

thanks Sjj1805,
I found a couple of these DVD to WMV articles, I didn't think they would be of much help but I will give it a try. Wait 10 hrs!!! That sucks!
I just dont understand, if my computer has the audio codec and my sound card is capable, why can't i render the video as such. Plus it kinda ticks me off that VS11 is being advertise as this great BR & HD editor, why wouldn't it have this option....
