Spanish Accents don't display properly

I'm having a problem getting the subtitles to display properly in DVD Workshop. I downloaded the patch thats supposed to improve languages that show up in question marks, but it doesn't fix it.

Characters like á always show up in ?s. But é 's are fine.

Depends on the fonts you use. I checked with a Spanish phrase from part of a sentence, "La estrategia de Endemol está a punto de" (as my Spanish is very poor). It worked fine using Arial (Western). However, be warned, never try to post-edit a sub-title (change position, format, font, colour, whatever) that contains foreign-language characters or diacritical marks. This is a bug that I tried to get Ulead to sort out during beta testing, but they never managed it. You must get it right first time!

Hey your right, they display perfectly before I change the font. Only problem, I can't read them.

I import all my subtitles from subtitle workshop. Can you think of a way to change the default size of the font and color when I import them? I can open the .txt file and change that font, but that still doesn't change the size.

Type it in, using the built-in editor and it works.

Because you already have created the subtitles in subtitle workshop you need to know what needs changing after opening it in Notepad.

The easiest way to do this is to create a small subtitle file using DVD Workshops own subtitle editor and saving it. Opening that file with notepad and then comparing those entries to the entries in the other file.

A simple find and replace should then do the trick.

There is some speciality with DWS subtitle files:
if you save them from dws, they may be ansi-files or unicode-files depending on the font you used (and perhaps on the characters you used).
If you open them e.g. with notepad on w2k or wxp you wont see a difference, because these versions are unicode enabled and notepad automatically converts the files for displaying them. If you would use notepad on w98 it would be able to open only the ansi-files. (and display garbage for the unicode ones.)
So to determine the format of a file (ansi versa utf8 versa unicode) I am used to open it in a hex editor. (Warning: some editors have a format option "show as hex". This is often not the same as a option to open a file as hex, because the editor might have convered it allready during opening it.)
And now the important:
To my experiance subtitle workshop does not support the unicode version of the dws subtitle files. I 've allready sent a mail regarding this to the authors of this tool years ago without getting a answer. Doesnt seem they want support unicode. So its likely your format is ansi and that could explain why some characters wont work.
But you could try the following:
Open the file e.g. with notepad and use file/save as/unicode.
Then edit/adjust the text.
And then import the unicode version into dws.
