Runtime error
This is what I'm getting when I try to install Photo Impact 11.
The install stops about half way through and I get this box that appears and says this:
Runtime error!
Program: C:\ WINDOWS\system32\MsiExec.exe
R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
I can't figuare this one out. Please help where as I've been using this all the way back since Photo Impact 8 and love it! I already have had PI 11 installed but I recently did a system OS re-install and haven't been able to re-install this. I have seen that others have had this problem dating back since July of this year and I've been at a loss to find a fix. If any of this forums best and brightest can help with this one, I'd be very grateful. Thankyou.
I sent out a e-mail to their web-site and they apperently don't have a fix. This was the responce:

The thing is, I don't want my money back, I really like the program and would like to continue using it.

Hi Brian,
thanks for trusting my expertise to the degree that you sent me a pm about this problem also. It is much better, however, to deal with such matters in the open, here in the forum. After all, that's what it's purpose is.
No to your problem.
Personally I have never had to face it. Since you do not provide any details on your system, it's almost impossible to even have an educated guess about what to do next.
Are you running a flavor of Win XP? Which one and do you have any service packs installed?
The offending program is not, IMHO, PI 11 since it ran before. The file msiexec.exe is a program used by windows installer and it may be corrupted. Which version of WinInstaller do you run?
After you answer at least the questions above, we might be able to help, however, reading this post http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=8963
and providing the details asked for there should at least stop us from asking more questions.
I would go to the Windows Update page on the internet and download the latest version of the Windows installer to start with.

msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI).

I really don't believe it would be that (overclocking). I've never had a problem with anything ever as a result of oc'ing. Plus, everything else works beautifully and everything installs as well. Just not PI 11. I have even installed Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 last week and it was fine.
It, as far as I can tell, might be a windows update which bugged something in some way or, I don't even know. It's a puzzle to me really. But overclocking, I can't even see that as the culprit. Plus, Unlead even acknowledged it as a problem to which they've received " a handful of reports on." I wonder how many hands a handful embodies in this situation? So it something which is out there as a problem for PI users and they, Unlead or Nova don't have a fix for as of today. The scary thing to me is how they were so quick to offer my money back to me. I admire they're sense or ownership as to offer compensation but, I just really want to be able to use my program again, that's all. Please continue to help if you can guys.
Thankyou again
Brian.

I don't believe I was blaming Unlead or anyone, I was just saying how it didn't look good for me if the company is so quick to give back my money rather then saying we will have a fix for this soon or, we're working on this and will correct it shortly. It made me feel as if they arn't going to work it out for me.
I took you up on your hypothisis about overclocking and it still wouldn't install. Thankyou for coming up with ideas though. You rock!! Please continue to help with other ideas if you can guys.

You might try downloading the PI-12 demo from Ulead and see if that gives you difficulty as well. I tried to find a link that would let you download a PI-11 demo but couldn't find one. But it still gives you another avenue to pursue and may help you to narrow down the problem.
I also doubt that overclocking would be the problem. You may end up burning up your processor, frying your motherboard, and sending an electrical short through the grid that causes a rolling blackout through five seperate states. But it probably wouldn't effect PhotoImpact so feel free to go ahead. Oh, but you might want to keep your PhotoImpact software away from your computer console so that you'll have more time to rescue it when the fire comes.
OK, I'm done here.

Edit: A couple of years ago I had some Serif sofware that wouldn't install from a CDRW drive. It would install from a CD-ROM drive but not from a read/write drive. It could be that something like that is the problem.
Edit2: Also makes sure that all your drivers are up to date: video, sound, bios etc. And make sure that you have the late SP2 patches from Microsoft. Sometimes an out of date code or a wrong version of directx can be the problem.
Hope this helps.
