If by "SP1" you mean the 6 November patch, I don't think it will work on the trial version. If you look at the letters in red underneath the patch you will see: " * This Update Pack is for Ulead VideoStudio 11/11 Plus (BOX, ESD, UPG, and activated TBYB) version." There is no mention of the trial version.

Yes, that is correct
it is Nov 6 version
what do you mean by activated TBYB

I just first want to install it, check it and see if it works for me

this is ridiculous
why it does not allow you to install

Does that installation make fail to other trial installation so that it will run for ever ?

Never seen this type of behaviour in software industry

I have been using Ulead Movie Factory since version 4, I upgraded to version 5. Now, I'm thinking of moving to video studio and this pissed me off......

First, there is no point in getting angry with me since none of us here work for Corel/Ulead. We are all volunteers who just happen to use the products and come here to help out others.

Now, as to what "they" mean by 'activated TBYB' is a trial version which is then purchased by the user who is sent an activation key to make it permanent and full.

As for your other gripe(s), it has been long-standing Ulead, and now Corel. practice not to allow trial versions to be patched. It might sound counter-intuitive to you, but there you are. It is something you would need to take up directly with Corel as we here on the Board cannot do anything about it.

I would also be interested to hear what other products you have used whose trial versions allowed update patches... I am not saying there aren't such products, but I don't recall having tried any...

I use Canopus Grass Valley products and if you want to trial Procoder you get version 1, if you buy you get the latest version 3!!!!!!

the legendary giant MS allows you to use 180 days winodws server and other versions to use SPs.....

Like I said, the logic is:
what happens if I use the patch to that TBYB version
Does that eliminate the requirement to purchase, will it make the software work forever....
I'm not angry with you.
We need to educate them......
patches, feature packs must be allowed in trial version.....

So, if I activate the license, will it work automatically
Or I have to uninstall and install the new one......

Can they make it work if I just purchase and activate this trial version......
I doubt it

First, No installing a patch to a TBYB version will not make it a full registered version. It will still be a trial version, subject to the 30 days.

IF you purchase an activation key then it will unlock the TBYB version, making it a full version. However due to the problems that many have encountered with patches refusing to install on activated TBYB, we strongly recommend not doing so. It is far safer to purchase an upgrade/full version. Download the fresh purchased version, then Uninstall your TBYB First, before attempting to install a full version.

I'm sure Micro$oft has done, and still does several things like that. However if I recall correctly, that refers to the Beta version, not Trial. There is a big difference. If you are lucky enough to be a Beta tester, then you get these bug ridden versions to test and report back what bugs you have found. I'm sure that a Trial version is similar to the full purchased version, with time limitations, as well as several features not being available.

TBYB - try before you buy.
You install it and see if you want it.
If you do, you can purchase a key on-line, install it and the software works and you can install updates and fixes.
Or you can un-install the trial and purchase a boxed version, install it and then update

Why must all the features be allowed in the trial? It'd be nice I agree, but a 30 day trial is just that, a way to see if you like the programme enough to buy it.

But of course they do!
Microsoft use their updates as a means of making sure that you have a genuine copy of their products and the first thing it will do is to check that you have Windows Genuine Advantage installed. If it is not installed then it will install that before installing anything else.

If it turns out you have a pirated version it then gives you a certain amount of time before making your computer explode and destroying your house with it!!
