Can you fade a Title?

Post by bob733 »

It seems as if you could, but so far, no luck. My titles end abruptly. Isnt there a way you can fade them in or out?

I am using animation ...Moving path, the one ot the top right (vs11 plus). Looking for something to fade but you cant really tell with the previews they give you.

Thanks

Yes, you can fade your titles. There are several presets under the Fade preset. Then you click on the TT to further customize it to, Fade-in, Fade-out, or Cross Fade. You can also control the Pause Duration, by selecting the User Defined option. Then adjust that by dragging the handles on the Pause-Duration bar, located under the Preview window.

Thanks... unfortunately, by using the fade, I lose the consistent pop up preset i use for all the others.

It would be nice to have the pop up (from lower to middle(moving up)) fade in, sit there for a second or two (in conjunction with an image), and then fade out (as the image is fading out).

I agree that you can not combine the Fade with this moving path, however you can still do what you want, just involves a different approach.
  • Create your title in VS.
  • Select to Save as Image.
  • Now use that image as your title.
  • Place the title in an overlay track. (It no longer is text, it is an image)
  • Use the arrows to have it move onto the stage.
  • Also beside the movement arrows are the Fade-in/Fade-out.
  • Adjust your pause, using the pause/duration bar.
  • Elect to have it fade-out as it is moving off, or just fade-out while positioned on the stage.
You can also create your titles in an image editor. Any editor that will save to bitmap, png, tga, a format that allows transparency. Then insert that into VS, and apply effects to it.

VS's big brother application, MSP, creates the titles as images, not text like VS. The titles in MSP can be placed on any video track, and all the video filters, and effects, moving paths can be applied to them. Being able to apply video filters and effects to your titles really has its advantages.

Ron,
Exellent! You also solved another problem for me with this approach.... the speed in which the text comes on etc was always tricky.

Going to utilize this approach as soon as I get done typing this "Thanks"

Thanks

Interesting...I can get the arrows to work but the Fade ins and Fade outs do not. They are abrupt (instant on and instant off).

I will keep working on it however but if you have any thoughts..

I don't know what the default is. I've wished that Ulead/Corel would give us some type of metering for that.

You adjust the duration for the fades by using those small rectangles on either side of the blue bar beneath the preview window. The longer the blue bar the longer the pause, and the shorter or quicker the fade.

So if you have a short bar in the middle the fade-in and fade-out will be longer, and slower.

Can you make a title to both fade in and out? I could only find an animation effect to fade it in OR out but not BOTH.

True...but the work around for that is once you made the title to fade in...drag and drop it to the library.... then drag and drop it again right beside the first "in" title on the timeline. Change the second "copy" 's attributes to fade out.

Adding a third copy in the middle means you can "pause" it for as long as you like.

Yes I know about that method. By the way, adding the middle copy is not necessary. You can control at what point fading begins by changing the length of the blue bar beneath the monitor window.

But still this is a pain in the butt method if you need to change the title. You have to copy it and again and put back to ensure seamless transition.

I find it weird that VideoStudio does not have a built-in animation setting to fade in and out. It has it for overlays, why not for titles??? Most of the time titles fade in AND out!!

I made a suggestion in "features wanted" thread...
