Vstudio.exe fault

Post by terry dennis »

Yesterday , I opened VS11 and tried to go into the Movie Wizard to look at templates. I had an error message which said
"Vstudio.exe fault The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Ulead System\Ulead VideoStudio 11\ufcGetVFRC.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I shut down the PC , started it up again and started up VS11 with no problem. It's OK today as well.

Anyone have any idea what the problem was and how to fix it ?

Have you recently applied the patch and update? I found that I had to reboot the pc after those to get it to work, even though I was not prompted to do so.

Sometimes when you shut down a Windows pc, it will "hang" when programs aren't releasing "handles". Something like that might cause it. There would generally be some entries in the Event Viewer logs, which you could look at if interested, but the information in them is generally pretty obscure.

There are just too many possibilities to know what might be the cause. At least it's working now!

Please excuse my ignorance , but which 'Patch and Update' are you referring to and what are 'Event viewer logs'.

Hardly ignorance Terry! Who wants to learn everything about Windows just for the sake of it? I just have some nerdy tendencies.....

There was a recent VS11 "patch", comprising a 27Mb download from the Ulead/Corel website, and another 55Mb "Power Pack" update which turns VS11+ into VS11.5. You should download and apply these two files to your VS installation.

Windows Event Viewer is a system utility that records various things happening on your pc when it boots up, shuts down, programs open and close and so on.

In XP, you can access the logs by going to "Start>My Computer" then right click and click on "Manage". This brings up the "Computer Management" console window. Click on the "+" in the box to the left of "Event Viewer" to expand the folders, where you will commonly find "Application", "Internet Explorer", "Security" and "System" files. Look for entries marked with either a yellow "warning" triangle or red "error" circle in the "Application" and maybe "System" files.
