DVD not playing on ANY set top but does play on computer DVD

Post by gwalms23 »

I need help, I have tried everything. I am using MF3 on Win 2k. I have burned the same drink coaster (dvd) with different settings (checked convert mpeg, unchecked convert mpeg, burn spped, w/ player, w/o player, w/ personal folder, etc...) and it will not play in any set top recorder. I had all updates and patches installed. I went so far as to uninstall the software and tried to burn it - didn't work. I then reinstalled the first patch (1 of 2) - didn't work, then the second (2 of 2) - didn't work and then the last patch - didn't work.

I have used several different DVD manufacturers (HP, Memorex) and tried it with DVD+R & +RW. NOTHING WORKS!

Everything has worked fine in the past, and I have made several DVD's that work great. I have not added or removed any software (except ulead and windows patches and updates). Now every project I do does not work. There is no video, all it is is 2 slideshows with music. I also tried to burn 10 pictures with no music to see if it would work, but it didn't. Could this have to do with a windows update and if so is there or will there be a patch?

Any info would help.

I have on occasion had this problem before and it has mostly been down to letting the editing package burn its own disks.

I dont know if this is any help to you or not but I never use editing software to burn dvd disks - in the past I have not found them to be as near reliable and at the cost of dvd disks you need to know its goin work. I use Nero6 to burn the dvd-files that Moviefactory generates - I use the option save to file or something like that (think its the 2nd one down on the final finalising dvd screen).

Other things I have been told in past:
Bad Media, faulty dvd burner, U'd be better to try to get a DVDRW disk to experiment your burns on to test with - then again some settop players dont even recognise RWs.

Disc Finalizing?

Post by GeorgeW »

Hi,

The amount of data you are burning should be quite low in regards to disc space needed. Make sure you don't check anything that says to "Quick Eject", or to leave the disc "open".

Do you see it going through a "Finalization" or "Fixating" stage?

Burning

Thanks Uleadboy and George W for your responses. My answers to each of you are below:

I did at one point check the quick eject and a message screen popped up saying it would affect the playback on a settop dvd player. I tried it anyway to see if anything would happen. I had the same results. In all the versions I burned my dvds on, they would all finish completely and work perfectly fine on a computer with a DVD-ROM, but they would not play on a set top player.

I am going to try burning this file as an image file and then burning it with Nero. I never thought of that. If that does not work I am going to blame it on the DVD burner itself. I discounted the media because I have used several different manufacturers (both +R and +RW) and the ones that always worked in the past on a particular set top player now does not work. I am assuming I can uninstall the DVD burner hardware and reinstall it. To get myself through the holidays I created the same file as a VCD and burned on my CD burner and it worked fine. So it is more and more looking like a burner issue.

Thanks for your help!!
