How to Remove Capture Drivers??

jhyearick wrote:I have the Trial Version MF5. After installing and rebooting I launched the program and selected new project and clicked on Add Video File. The program sets for aprox 15 sec and then displays an error. A msgbox pops up with "Please connect your device with ActiveSync" . As I was adding a file on my hard drive, I am uncertain as to what device I need to connect.
I have tried dropping the file on the timeline with the same result. I then repaired the installation and rebooted...still does same thing. I completely uninstalled following the instructions posted in this forum. Reinstalled...same thing...I don't know what to do at this point. This is my first experence with MF. Thanks for any help.

Well let's figure this finally out. Here are the facts.
  • you're experiencing this problem with MF5
  • this poor user suffers, too. Different application, same prob. (it's enough to know that it's video-related)
  • I am also affected when starting up just a third different (video editing) application :x
  • We all own or did own a PPC
And for me I know and for you I strongly guess:
  • We did at some time try to use our PPC as a webcam, which means installing a tool on the PPC and our computers.
Do you already smell the rat?

This is my guess:
All of the apparently annoying applications are innocent. They only try to find all available video-capture-drivers and - maybe - try to load them. Since we get rid of the webcam/screen-capture/whatever tool on our PPCs the installed capture driver 1st thinks the ppc is not connected and 2nd pops the message-box in the name of our beloved apps.

:?: To make a long story short:
Who knows a way to list all and remove single installed capture-drivers?

cheers, j.ek.

Can You?
Go under Device Manager, right click on the device and select "Disable"
Then windows will not load the drivers for this device.

Otherwise if you remove the software drivers whenever you start windows it will se the device & try to load the drivers along with the add new hardware installation screen, whether they are on the system or not.

Problem solved

Thanks for your quick reply, but I tried that myself and unlike a real firewire-connected miniDV-camera or something nothing shows up in the device manager.
I think they realized it via some kind of registered filters, which resides in files ending in the .ax extension end may be registered by executing (in a cmd-window) something like

Code: Select all

regsvr32 <filter-filename>

But in the filter manager of ZoomPlayer (which is the only one I know) I cannot find anything related, which possibly is because ZoomPlayer doesn't list the capture-capable filters.

If you wonder what I'm talking about: I found a file named install.bat in the download folder of one of those tools and there was exacty this single command in it. First thing was to de-register exactly this file using the -u parameter, but it did not help. So I assume there are more filters which need to be un-installed.
Sure you recognized my unsureness regarding the terms device, driver and filter. In fact I don't know how they have done it and where the error comes from - but above seems reasonable to me.

Any other suggestions?

// edit
I've done it! :D
Source of the error was VHPocketCap.ax (which I figured out using the excellent ProcessExplorer) and unregistering it solves the problem. Very conveniently this special app comes with an uninstall.bat where this is done automatically (by calling the regsvr32 thing).

So this thread may be closed and thanks for your patience.
