HDTV Capture

Post by AZTEC »

Hello

I am using VS11.5 for editing and I am looking to expand my system to include High Def. TV capture.

I have looked at the spec of the Hauppauge WinTV HVR4000 PCI card to get the programs onto the computer via a satellite dish. It would appear that the card seems to have "gone off the boil" so to speak and is not readily available here in Spain.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience of working with HDTV who can offer any advice regarding choice of input card and work low when editing HDTV programs.

Any other comments and suggestions would be welcome whilst I am at the planning stage and before I spend money on equipment.

Kind Regards

Everyone will have their own favourite HDTV card. I have heard good things about the Hauppage but personally chose the Winfast DTV2000H because I had one of their analogue TV capture cards (DV2000) before it and loved the result. Quality of HD video captured from the Winfast is excellent. I tend to use the software which came with the card both to watch and capture in HD mpeg-2. It uses either a Winfast codec or a Cyberlink one installed as part of Power DVD. Once captured, it is simple to open the captured clips in Video Studio 11/11.5 and edit them...

Thanks for your input Ken, I will check out the spec of the Winfast DTV2000H. I agree that it is down to personal preference but having not used a TV capture card of any sort it is always good to get other peoples views and comments, more so when delving into HDTV.

Another one you might want to look at is the Dvico Fusion -- which gives you two digital tuners in the one card... Am getting one in a new computer I am picking up tomorrow, so I don't have first hand experience with it. But I have read good reviews of it.
