I'm going to present you with several links to a wealth of information. You'll find your answers in this information. How and why?
1. How, is by following the advice that has been published on the forums, so that everyone's experience in using VS will be less troublesome.
2. Why? So that you will indeed learn not only why you're having problems, but many other things that will help with other aspects of video editing, and DVD creation.

vidoman, thx but i feel a bit disappointed and frustrated
your post is really useful and full of information but i cant manage to find the answers......
let me explain, u may think i just asked without read the "read before posting', i cant say u a wrong but u a not right...
after installing VS, i spent some time to read the tutorial on the website and spent many hours to try to click everywhere in VS and i tried to simply merge several files as i said but came across those problems, and then i found this forum and read, maybe there are too many information, maybe my english is not good enough, maybe i m too stupid, also maybe i dont hv enough time to study all the information, i still cant find the answers so i posted to ask.....my problems actually happend 4 days before....i tried my best to find the answer before troubling u guys.....
i would really expect u simply teach me to solve the problems first, and it would be even better if u could at the same time post those relevant information for my learning....i hope u understand than one who got iphone may use it for making and receivin call only though u can hv videos and music, by the same token, i use VS for simple functions only though it have hundreds functions to help users to make great movie
maybe i should buy a simple software with less function instead of VS, i understand u may hv answered similar questions many times so u post the information to help us, but i really wanna make it simply....
thank you again....hope u can answer me this time

The preview you are seeing is the progress of the file being rendered.
If you are simply putting files in the timeline and then producing a new file, you should only see "movement" in the preview where the clips join. If you are seeing "slow" moving film then some or all of your clips have different properties then the project and output file.
What are the properties of the files in your time line and what are the properties of your output file?

There is no way to stop it. VS is designed to play parts of the project that is being rendered, as Guy L has stated.1. during (not after) rendering, the player started to 'preview' the video, how can i stop it ? it slows my pc speed
Without knowing what the properties are of the video files you are using, it is difficult to determine. I do know that VS prefers the WAV audio format over MP3. So if you're using MP3 audio, try converting it to WAV. To do this, go to the Share step, click on Create Sound File. Then make sure to save it to the WAV format. Then try inserting that WAV file into one of the audio tracks.2. the new file doesnt have audio, whts wrong? i clicked the wrong things?
If you have in fact read some of the material, including looking in the manual on page #136 you would have found this:3. in the 'preference' there is a box to chose 'instant playback' or 'high quality playback' , wht does it mean and whts it for?
I'm sorry I disappointed you, but I felt that all the information I provided would in fact help you. Alas I did not take into account your complete laziness!!!Playback method: Choose a method for previewing projects: Instant
Playback allows you to quickly preview changes in your project without the
need to create a temporary preview file, however, playback may be jerky
depending on your computer resources. High Quality Playback renders
your project as a temporary preview file then plays this preview file. Playback
is smoother in High Quality Playback mode, but rendering your project for the
first time in this mode may take a long time to complete depending on the
size of your project and computer resources.
In High Quality Playback mode, VideoStudio uses SmartRender technology
which renders only the changes you made such as transitions, titles and
effects, and eliminates re-rendering the entire project. SmartRender saves
time when generating previews.

You have to help us to help you
Hi timothycccc
odd that for someone who seems to like cell phone text style shorthand, you have such a long screen name!
Although VS is a fairly straightforward program to use, it does require some effort to learn. Perhaps people have an unrealistic expectation that everything should be easy for everyone these days, and maybe Video Studio is not the most appropriate software for your particular purposes.

No problem, lots of poor english about, especially where I live.timothycccc wrote:sorry for my poor english and stupid questions:
Unfortunately, there are lots of different types of avi files, so you have to be quite specific about the exact properties of each avi file.timothycccc wrote:i have several video files (avi) needed to be merged together, i put them in the timeline and go to 'share' and then 'create video file' but
Actually the previewing of the file as it renders does not significantly slow down the rendering process. You might, however, be hoping to achieve "Smart Render", in which case you would expect to see a black preview screen as you render the output. If your three avi files have different properties, however, Smart Render may not be enabled, even though you have set the project properties to match those of the first clip.timothycccc wrote:1. during (not after) rendering, the player started to 'preview' the video, how can i stop it ? it slows my pc speed
Without the exact information on the avi file properties, it's impossible for us to figure out what's wrong. Vidoman suggested it might be caused by the use of mp3 audio in the avi clips, which is as good a guess as any but without the proper information, that's about all that can be said.timothycccc wrote:2. the new file doesnt have audio, whts wrong? i clicked the wrong things?
On a slow pc, you'd choose "Instant Playback". It makes it quicker to play a project in the VS preview window, but has no effect on the final output. I think that "Instant Playback" is the default setting.timothycccc wrote:3. in the 'preference' there is a box to chose 'instant playback' or 'high quality playback' , wht does it mean and whts it for?
