preview window not showing mpg file VS11+

Post by Peta »

I have just upgraded(?) to Vista and therefore VS11+. I had two mpg files which I combined in a project to create a single 2.5GB 38min video file. Added music and then rendered - no other editing.

In create disk mode (nothing in the timeline I started a new project as per sticky instructions) I added the 2.5GB mpg file. It shows in the lower window area along with the green bar advising its size but does not appear up in the preview window. I tried clicking on the q-recover lost av data button and it came back with "not supported". If I go to the next stage abviously nothing is there to preview.

The file plays fine as a video in Intervideo DVD player.

Any suggestions as to why a file VS11+ created is not visible in the preview window and therefore not burnable to a DVD?

Thanks

Hi Steve
I tried to do that but when pressing the i button there is no response. I tried to post a screen shot, but not done that in this forum before so not sure how to. Anyway the i button whilst apparently available, didn't produce any media info.

OK lets get the information from a previous step.
Start a new project and go to the share tab then select create disc.
Click this button
Image

Navigate to your video file and press the info button

To post screen shots like I have done above simply press the [PrtSc] button on your keyboard, open up an image editing program such as PhotoImpact, Photoshop etc and paste. You can then trim the screenshot so that you only keep the area we are interested in. Save it in GIF format and then it has to be saved somewhere on the internet.
I tend to use http://www.imageshack.us/
and also http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

Both the above sites will generate the code for you to copy/paste into your post.

The print-srceen only places a screenshot to the clipboard of your computer. You need to open up an image editing program like PhotoImpact. Once it is open, select Edit>Paste.

You can then resize it (recommended) or at least crop out the unnecessary parts. Save the results, and upload it to one of the free image hosting websites.

Ron -- we must stop meeting like this! There I was typing out a much more detailed answer, saying essentially the same thing. I even paused a while to get it right in both Photoshop and PhotoImpact 12, only to find you beat me to the punch once again. So I have deleted my answer...

My one rather more acerbic comment, which does, however, bear repeating, is that Vista's "awful" operating system saves the image it to exactly the same place as all its predecessors which, as you say, is the Clipboard...!

Ah, and now Peta has beaten me to the punch as well.

In Photoshop elements, as in Photoshop, you first select "New". The program "knows" what is in the clipboard so suggests a canvas that will match it exactly. When you get that white new canvas on screen is when you select Paste, though I usually just use Ctrl+V as a keyboard shortcut. And there is your image!!!

Did I beat Ron this time???

well thank you guys. I have had Vista only for a few days, finding anything on this system has been hard. I will go search for the clipboard images. So far searching for "Clipboard images" has not produced anything. I never used PrntScreen in XP, I had a more efficient way of capturing screen images staright into a photo editing software program.

Sorry to have been a trouble to you all.

Could you all see that? Any reason why ( 3 times now - and I have twice started afresh and imported original avi files and added music, no editing, and then rendered to Mpg) the video does not appear in the preview screen and will not burn as a result.

Yes, I can see it fine, thanks. And the properties look fine too.

First, though, have you (1) applied the VS11/11+ patch of 6 November to be found at the Ulead.com page by clicking the Download > Update Packs button across the top of screen in the logo area?

(2) Then applied the Power Pack to be found immediately above that patch?

(3) Gone to the Microsoft DirectX site and applied the update patch dated November 2007? That patch updates both DirectX 9.0c (used by XP and earlier systems) and also Vista 10 (used by Vista). For people having the preview problem using XP, this patch worked to correct the problem. I can't recall anyone with Vista reporting the preview problem (I certainly don't have it on my set-up). But the DirectX patch does something with 3D rendering on Vista, and may also work to correct the VS11 problem if the patch and Power Pack haven't already.

Thank you Ken - yet again great advice. The VS11+ updates were not sufficient in themselves, it was those PLUS the DirectX that finally worked.
Greatly appreciate your help and that of Steve.
Cheers
