I dowloaded the trial version of VS11 when it first came out and could not get it to work when importing my HDV clips. Now that Ulead has released the HD Power Pack I am interested in trying it again... But cannot since I installed it earlier.
My Question is:
When importing either HDV or AVCHD video, will VS11 retain the date that each clip was taken so I can go back and look at it while editing? I like to ad a sub-title with the date when the date changes in my home movies.
I have a Sony HDV camera now, and using Sony Vegas, it does NOT retain the date when importing. I will buy a AVCHD camera if that will allow me to retain the date when importing.
I saw another note saying that some camera can add the date to the video for a few seconds? I will have to look into this... I knew I could add the date to the video, but I did not know that you could set it to go away after a few seconds... Is this a common function to video cameras these days?
Does VS11.5+ Retain the Date when importing HDV and/or AVCHD

If you mean the hovering function with your mouse which brings up a box about the file, then yes, that works with HD and AVCHD files.
And be careful with the thought of an AVCHD camera. You haven't given your system details, but you need a quite powerful computer to process AVCHD video at a reasonable speed, and even just to play it back smoothly. If you look at my system button below, that P4 computer can manage to edit AVCHD, if verrrry slowly. But it simply can't play back the resulting file smoothly. Lots of jerky motion. I thought this was in the file itself. But when I transferred the edited file to my Core 2 Duo 2 GHz 2 GB RAM computer, it played back smoothly.

Well, I would like to get the properties on a clip I imported and see that the clip was created on <DATE> and <TIME>... I then like to add a sub-title to the movie with the date and name of the event.Ken Berry wrote:If you mean the hovering function with your mouse which brings up a box about the file, then yes, that works with HD and AVCHD files.
I have been testing Sony Vegas, and it retains the date for my MiniDV clips, but not my HDV clips. (Both Sony Cameras)
I will consider switching to AVCHD if that will retain the date of the clips after thay have been imported. (And HDV will not.)
My laptop is a 2.2 Core 2 w/2GB and a 7200 HD...
My PC is a 2.66 Core 2 w/2GB and a RAID 0 7200 HD Stripe set...

AVCHD Date & Time
Ken,
I don't think you are correct regarding VS11 remembering the date and time. I am using VS 11.5 w/ a Sony SR7.
I just ran into a problem where a clip is out of place on Christmas video I just offloaded off my camera. If I hover on a clip the date/time that is shown is the date/time today when I imported the video. Not real useful.
VS renamed the MTS files on import and imported at least one clip out of sequence.
Importing AVCHD is still a real pain. Import a DVD folder, browse to the drive letter for the HD camcorder, go to the AVCHD folder, check the first clip you want, wait for a while and then it lets you select the next clip. Repeat this until you select all of the clips you want (no group select functions.) I wonder if the out of order import was caused by something silly like me skipping a clip accidentally and then going back and selecting it. If I get time I'll experiment with this.
I am not trying to do anything real elaborate with my videos. I am looking forward to finding an editing solution that just works without a lot of hassle. I am always having to overcome some obstacle with VS.
