Vs 11 sound echo problem
Hi , new to forum and video editing. Just purchased Canon HV20 and Ulead vs 11 and attempted to down load my first completed tape. I viewed The clip that i downloaded and each word is repeated ie hello hello.
The playback on the camera is perfect. Can anybody help, i have spent time looking for any special audio effects which might be enabled but all to no avail.
Thanks

Ok thanks for providing your system information, both here and in your profile.
Now can you provide the information in the "Read This First" sticky at the top of this forum. The blue "This Thread" in my previous post is a link to that sticky. We're going to need more information from you in order to better help.

Describe your problem: It is my first my first time downloading or editing. I have loaded the software and connected the video camera with a firewire cable, the system automatically chooses MPEG. As it downloads the voices are echoed ie each word or noise is played at least twice. I have checked the recording on the camera which is fine.I have also tried using window movie maker but it would not recognise the video device, yet the camera is recognised in ULead???
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?): Sony DV tape
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: Video recorder cANON hv20 connected with Firewire cable.
Project Settings (important):??
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): Camera to MPEG
PAL or NTSC: - I have just noticed that that the ULed program displays NTSC 720*480 STEREO, I am in Perth WA so should be PAL - Not sure how i change the settings or if this may be a problem, can you please advise?
Error Codes (if any):
Product Version: e.g. VS10 or VS11+ -VS11+

First since you're camcorder records to DV (avi) it is recommended to edit in the same format. So when you "download" (commonly called capturing), you should capture to DV, Type-1.
Next you are correct, you should be using PAL, not NTSC, which VS defaults to. This is set when you install the program. While installing you should have been presented with a screen that allowed you to set the Location (Country) and / or the TV standard (PAL / NTSC) for your area. I know Ken Berry has mentioned a few times, that when he is presented that screen, he first selects his country, then selects the TV standard. I guess that way it ensures that his installation is going to be correct.
There is no way to change this default without reinstalling. However you can create templates from the Tools>Make Movie Templates Manager menu. You will need to set up templates for your projects and for creating your DVD Compatible MPEG-2 video files.
Here are some articles that are chocked full of information. They can really help you get a good start on editing. This is something that is very different, and more complex than editing images. A person needs to do some serious studying if they want to minimize their difficulties and maximize the enjoyment. (The underlined blue texts are hyperlinks, that will take you to the appropriate pages).
You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial.
A Recommended Workflow has been developed to help guide you through the mine-field of video editing, as it pertains to Ulead's VideoStudio Programs. They can be viewed here:
Recommened WorkFlow for VideoStudio
You might want to view the tutorial on VS10 Preferences and Project Settings) (Even though this one deals with VS10+, the procedure is the same for VS11+).
For a brief summary of AVI and MPEG-2 please read the article at this link:

I don't think it's a problem
To me, it sounds like you're getting sound, as you capture, both from your camcorder and through your pc audio setup. Just turn down the sound on either device if it bothers you.
The sound isn't being captured twice - you're just hearing it from both devices as you capture.
To confirm this, do a test capture of a short segment and play it back on your pc.
P.S. don't over use bold type!

2Dogs - You were right with the volume, Thanks
Vidoman - When capturing my canon camera device is recognised but the only format showing is MPEG. The tutorial and your notes advise to use DV, Type 1. When i hit the pull down menu or arrow next to the format the only one displayed is MPEG - Can you please advise how i get the DV.
Thanks

Buried at the top of this thread (first post) you mentioned the make of cam. HV20 (nice one!).
Anyway, it is a high def cam so it does record to mini DV tape but it does not record DV AVI. It records MPEG2 so that is why VS won't let you change anything. Just carry on transferring MPEG2.
Remember not everyone on the board knows the recording mode of every cam on the market!
