I want to use a Smartscene menu, but I have 5 videos in my project. I see that the maximum number of items with the Smartscene menus that come with VS11+ is 4. I know that I can change the Layout of a thumbnail menu in the editor, but there's no such option for Smartscene menus. Is there any way to add an item to a Smartscene menu?
Thanks,
Rich

Thanks, that will definitely help. It's ashame there's no easy way to change the existing ones
I think VideoStudio is a great product, but the more heavily I use it, the more I realize it would be nice to have more control over things. Since most of my output is to DVD, I would gladly pay a little more for a separate DVD Authoring tool with finer control.
Thanks,
Rich

Movie Factory 6 is supposed to be the authoring complement to VS11/11.5. And indeed it gives you greater control and options. But it depends on what exactly you are after. You might still find it limited. You can download a trial version and see for yourself.
DVD Workshop is the prosumer level Ulead product for authoring, and you can basically start from a clean sheet in building a menu with that. Unfortunately, its current version is now several years old and is limited, as far as I am aware, to 4:3 format.
And it seems that since Ulead sold out to InterVideo and that in turn was taken over by Corel, Workshop is not going to be continued as a product. A great shame. Those of us who use it are hopeful that its features will be included in either a VS12 "Pro" or MF7 "Pro" -- and of course allow us to author not only 16:9 DVDs but the other formats which have now emerged on the market in the past couple of years.

Depends upon what you want to achieve.
you can start from a blank screen and recreate almost any Hollywood produced DVD by using DVD Workshop 2.
The only problem is that DVD Workshop 2 is a few years old and does not natively create 16.9 menus - though we have published a work round
Next option - in fact one that can be used with DVD Workshop, VideoStudio or MovieFactory is to create a DVD Template from scratch using Photoimpact
problem here is that with VideoStudio/MovieFactory you cannot create play lists, have one of those "extras" menus for selecting alternative sound tracks and subtitles etc.
