Video Studio 9 crashes at startup Splash Screen
Well folks....we have yet another Ulead beta product......My VS9 crashes when starting.....the Splash Screen shows up but then the program totally disappears with no error messages.....back to the desktop as if it never launched....
Starting in Safe Mode (to disable device drivers) doesn't help.
Just wasted $50 to say nothing of a lot of time.
Anybody have any clues???
Thanks,
Larry

Computer Specs?
What are your computer specs. I have heard this also happens in some cases with MovieFactory 4.0.
The only way some folks can get it to work is to go through the START menu/Programs/Ulead... (i.e. not using a desktop icon to launch it).
Not sure what's going on

Shortcuts can have different properties, even commands.GeorgeW wrote:

Launching it from a shortcut, the Start Menu, or going directly to the Programs Folder/Ulead Systems/VideoStudio9/ folder and directly launching the application all work the same way.....the program puts up an initial wizard with the 3 choices, and choosing any of the 3 makes the program crash at the next (Splash) screen.
The Event Viewer does not record any event for this program launch, and apparently the program has not yet posted an event. The most recent event is from a prior program running 10 minutes earlier. Repeated launching of the VideoStudio9 program doesn't help. Nor does repeated re-installations of the program.
The program has a bug (probably many bugs). It executes outside of its' protected memory space, and the operating system detects it and shuts it down. Sloppy programming............

Hahahaha.....The axe may be my only solution!
I did look at the System Log after finding nothing in the Application Log. The System Log says:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 4/8/2005
Time: 2:28:37 PM
User: N/A
Computer: LARRY-OFFICE
Description:
Application popup: vstudio.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x008a9302" referenced memory at "0x09aefc10". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
An out of bounds memory reference........clearly an example of bad code gone awry........
Tried playing with different screen resolutions also.....No joy......

Yup. 9.0c, the very latest version.
I installed the software on another machine I have here and it did start up, but I notice that it shows a different splash screen photo than the one which shows up on my video editing machine. I wonder why it has two different photos, both of young women, one with a red background on the working version and one with a green background on the broken version?
I'm sure one of the software gurus in Taiwan has a clue.

There shouldn't be a green background. It's a clear sign that something is borked in your DirectX installation or the driver.
Try running DXDIAG.EXE and execute all of the test in the Video tab. Verify that all of the acceleration options on that page are listed as working. If you haven't upgraded your video driver, consider doing that.

There are 2 different photos. One has a female face with a camcorder and a red background (on the working version of the program installed on one of my word processing machines). The other has a different face with a newer, smaller camcorder, with a green background on the version which crashes. They are merely 2 different splash screen photos. The background color is inherent to each photo.
I have 11 video editing and authoring programs installed on my video editing machine including 4 (such as VS8) from Ulead which all have been running fine. Only this one new program (VS) crashes.
I regret to say that the problem is NOT DirectX. If it were, I could fix it......
Thanks again,
Larry

I would thus conclude that your program, unlike mine, starts correctly, and thus you do not see the photo I am referring to in my several messages above.
I mentioned it with the hope that somebody who has written the program will recognize this failure mode and thus may be able to diagnose the cause of the crash. Since the program produces no other error messages or other warnings when it exits, this can be helpful to somebody debugging the problem, as it is the last thing the program does before abnormally exiting.

Starts Up, Shows Splash Screen, application flashes then die
I have the same problem. I just bought Version 9. I have version 8 installed with no problems. I think their is definite problems with this version. Ulead was too quick to get it out the door so they could get their release out before their competitors. Which usually release their stuff soon too.
I will continue trying things and let you know if I can get mine fixed.
Thanks,
Paul
