Problem advancing to Step 3 in MF5

Post by algen »

Hi All,

I am having problems going from step 2 to 3 in DVD Movie Factory 5. The software locks up and I get the "Program not responding" message in task manager. I am capturing from a Sony Handycam DV and creating AVI files. I want to make DVDs for set-top player use.

I have successfully made DVDs before from the same DV handycam using MF5 on this computer (same technique each time). But now for some reason I get this 'not responding" issue.

I have seen that others have had similar problems on this forum - but as yet no solutions.

Please help.

Cheers,
algen

Is your assigned working folder on a valid drive?
Do you have a dvd in the dvd burner?
Try removing the dvd from the burner if it's in the burner.
Could also be corrupted temp files under the working folder.

For windows XP:
Save the project.
Go under your working folder & delete the TEMP directory
Go to C:\Documents & Users\Your_User_Name\Application data\Ulead Systems\MF5\
Somewhere's under the above directory you will see a CACHE folder.
Delete that cache folder.

Start MF & load the project again without a dvd in the writer.
Try going all the way to the burning screen without a dvd in the writer.
If you can get that far then put the dvd in the writer while in the burning screen and let the system stabilize.

Thanks for your suggestions etech - unfortunately I have had no luck.
The assigned working folder is in a valid drive and there was no DVD in the burner. I have also deleted the TEMP and CACHE folders you mentioned.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Turns out that the option "Create DVD folders" on the step 3 screen was causing the problem. I have an external hard drive which I used on my last project to store a DVD folder. This was not connected when I was trying to advance to step 3 on my current project - the path for the DVD folder option was still pointing to the external hard drive.
Problem solved when I connected up the ext hard drive.

algen,
Thanks for posting this information back to the forum.A good thing to know.
Usually when the program can't see an assigned directory it defaults back to your home/users directory. Maybe not so if your reloading an existing project.
