Can't advance past 'preview' screen when trying to burn DVD
Hello - I've posted two screenshots here: http://www.ebookhookup.com/vsp.html to illustrate my problem. I've got a DVD-R (also tried a DVD+R) in my DVD burner, and all settings seem to be okey, but I can not advance after clicking 'Next' in the preview pane of the Disk Burning session.
I wasn't able to find where VS 11 Plus keeps the settings for my drive to make sure it recognizes my drive. Could that be the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Tom

Do you see the icons in the lower left corner of the screen shots you provided? That is where you can adjust settings, although I don't think you'll find anything with regards to recognizing your burner.
Are you following the Suggested Workflow of first creating a DVD-compatible MPEG2 file before going to the burning module (Share>Create Video File), rather than taking your project there via Share>Create Disc?

Yes, I see the icons in the lower left, but they do not indicate burner choice.
I did not follow the Suggested Workflow for first creating a DVD-compatible MPEG2 file because the help file didn't mention that step. I can try that first though.
Thank you. I'll post my result.
By the way, I'm editing AVCHD files, so perhaps that MPEG2 rendering is essential prior to burning. I'll see. . .

AVCHD editing requires a lot of system resources, and can be very slow. Even if you manage it, playback of avchd can be erratic on an under-powered computer. I am not really sure that yours is up to it. But you will have to experiment for yourself with that. But I would certainly be following the recommended workflow so as to optimise the system resources you *do* have. But others with far more experience of that format may want to chip in here.
That being said, have you updated your DirectX with the latest patch available from the Microsoft DirectX website? It's currently dated November 2007. It appears to correct a problem some users have with getting through and past the preview problem in the burning module.

Same problem
Hi,
Sounds like the same problem I am having?
Update Direct X 9 to Nov 07
I can compile save and preview but the next step to create following the workflow of having a BLANK timeline just does not happen.
I can burn the file to HDD and burn using Nero 8 and using their not so good templates.
Have you recently upgraded Nero to V8?

Can you confirm exactly what you mean by that, please?...but the next step to create following the workflow of having a BLANK timeline just does not happen.
After editing, our suggested workflow is that you first convert the project to DVD compatible mpeg-2: Share > Create Video File > DVD.
Once you have your mpeg-2, save your project, then open a new one. Don't worry about a name for it -- the objective is just to clear the timeline in the Editing module.
Then you go to Share > Create Disc, which with the empty timeline, will be the only option. When the burning module opens, its timeline will also be empty. You then use the Add Media button up top to insert your new mpeg-2 into the burning timeline, make your menu and burn. Also, make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen.
Does this not work for you?

Turns out that my Ulead DVD MovieFactory has the exact same problem as my VS 11 Plus - can't burn a disk. EXCEPT, with VS 11 Plus, I can't advance past the preview screen, and with MovieFactory, I CAN advance to the next screen, where I see the dialog box stating that DRIVE: No Burner Exists. Yet, in the main screen of that program it clearly shows my burner as the proper drive letter and identifies it properly.
Hmmm. . .
Yes, I downloaded and installed the latest DirectX driver.
Still fiddling with this. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks.

This is a longshot, but have you tried re-installing your DVD burner?
Go to Device Manager, (Start>Control Panel>System, click on the Hardware tab, then Device Manager). Look for your DVD burner in the left pane. Right-click, select delete. Then reboot windows. It should discover a new device (your DVD Burner), and prompt to install.

Javaman -- you don't happen to have a program like Nero's InCD loaded do you? This is packet-writing software where you drag and drop files onto a burner icon and they accumulate there till there is enough to burn to a disc. But in the meantime, such programs deny access to the burner to other programs like Video Studio.
The Roxio Easy Media Creator suite has a program similar to InCD, and there are a variety of other similar programs out there. InCD has to be totally uninstalled, though the Roxio module can be internally disabled without uninstalling it.
You can do without these programs anyway, since a little known feature of XP and Vista provides exactly this function. When you right click on a file anywhwere within Windows, one of the Options is 'Send To', and when you select that, a further option is to send it to a burner, where, as with the above programs, it will accumulate till there is enough to burn. But this Windows function does not bar other programs' access to the burner in the meantime...

Ah, the LG 18x burner... I just recently bought two GSA-H55Ns, and one installed on a computer with no problems. But my main video editing computer (the one in my System button) gave enormous trouble. To cut what was a very long story short, I found that it had to go as a primary on one of the IDE connections, whereas I had had it as a secondary channel... And never looked back since then. It was probably a motherboard question, as the other computer has a completely different motherboard and the LG on that one is on a secondary channel. So it could be worthwhile changing around the burner connection...

Burner works fine with NERO8

I seem to be having exactly the same problem as Javaman and Accolades. I can't progress beyond the 'NEXT' button when burning a DVD in VS 11+.
I do have Nero 8 installed and, picking up on Ken's point, it's possible I have Nero's InCD installed if that comes as part of the Nero standard package.
Glancing through the forum this 'next button' problem seems to be a recurring issue without a solution.
Anyone cracked it yet?
