Region switching option

Post by Mr. Klein »

Hi.
I hope someone here can help with this question.
I only seem to be able to play one region, R1, even though I actually live in R2 area! -I thought I was supposed to be able to do that, play any region I choose? Problem is, it won't let me change the disc region, that information is 'frozen' and won't be altered, although I even know of a friend whose WinDVD8 can! So I know it's possible. I have just bought and downloaded it, so I don't know why it won't let me switch regions... :?: Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 8)

Sorry if you this sounds like I am telling you off - I am not.
You can alter the title by using the Image button on your first post.

The purpose of providing a meaningful title is this.
There are a number of members on the forum who try and help troubleshoot problems - myself included. In the early days of the user forum it was not too difficult to be able to read all of the posts submitted since the last time I (or one of the other troubleshooters) had logged on.

On the Forum Home page at the top right is a link
[view posts since last visit] In the forums early days this would perhaps range between 10-30 posts. Today however the board has grown in popularity and more products are now catered for including the former Intervideo products before the merger with Ulead.

There have been days when I have logged on to find over 70 new posts since my last visit. It is of course impossible to read each and every one of them and so it is necessary to look at the titles to pick out posts where I feel I am able to offer some worthwhile input.

if you are viewing perhaps the VideoStudio forum and a post is entitled
"VideoStudio" - it doesn't really give you a clue, similarly in the PhotoImpact forum a post entitled [PhotoImpact] is equally as meaningless.

Giving a post a suitable title is a means of helping us to help you.

If you are running Windows Xp do this . Open Control Panel / Double click System (The Computer icon) / System Properties panel will appear / click on hardware / Device Manager / click on the + sign next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives
/ Now right click on the drive you want to change the region on. A panel will now appear that has different options. go to the bottom and open PROPERTIES . You will now see where , how and how many times you can change the region for the drive. After you exceed the limit of changes you may have to install another drive . I not sure about that since I have never had to establish my own region more than once .

I'll just emphasize Cuz's statement about changing the region. You are limited to about 4 times in changing. It clearly states in the warning, that if you reach zero, you can no longer change the region, even if you reinstall Windows or move the drive to a different PC. This apparently writes to the ROM of the drive itself.

So this not something to toy with lightly..

Hi.

Thanks for all that! I have Vista, btw. Unfortunately it keeps saying 0 (zero), so for some reason I can't change the region anymore, even though I've never changed it at all. Really odd. :? Guess I'm stuck with watching R1, luckily I have loads of R1 DVDs, more than R2 in fact. But it's still a bit of a drag, of course, I though you'd be able to go back and forth as you please.
