VS11.5 not allow me to create DVD?

Post by Accolades »

Hi,

I have created a project with several videos and photos in it and created a video file DVD 16:9 that was saved to HDD.

I went to share the video and create DVD imported the video file to timeline and chose a theme etc. I press next and nothing happens?

I press Preview and goes to preview screen but will not play!!

I can view the video using noreovision 8!!!

I have tried doing the same loading VSP but same outcome?

The preview problem is (usually) solved if you go to the Microsoft DirectX site and download the very latest patch for your DirectX. It is currently labelled November 2007 and works for both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). If you have 9.0c, the patch will not change that version number, but will definitely install quite a few tweaks, one of which overcomes the preview error in VS11 for some reason.

As for your suggested workflow, you might want to read Steve Jones sticky at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 512#101512 which contains considerable detail about every aspect of a project.

I have the workflow printed out.

I downloaded and installed DirectX9 off the MS website (Nov 07) then opened VS imported the DVD Vidio directly into the create disk step.

I was then able to at least preview the project/video but still not go to the next step of creating the disk?

I have nothing on my project timeline!

Nero 8 was able to import the finished video and add one of their limited range of titles then burn the DVD at 4X

What you ned to tell us is:
1. Where did the video / audio / photo files come from e.g. camcorder, TV card, DVD disc, Internet, digital camera, scanner etc.
2. How did they get into your computer e.g. firewire (IEEE1394) cable
USB cable, RCA plugs, imported from a DVD (How?)
3. What formats were involved e.g. MPEG Video, DV Video, Bitmap Pictures, JPG pictures, GIF's, MP3 files WAV files and so on.
4. What did you do with them.
5. Did you create an MPEG2 (PAL DVD) video file from the [Share] tab
clear the timeline (File, New) then go to [Share] [Create Disc] and import that new PAL DVD Video into VideoStudio, create chapters and then move onto the Menu Screen?

You need to explain in full detail from start to finish what you did.

Video and Digitsal photos came from a Kodak Easyshare Z7590 that I have used and created projects and dvd's from previously.

Were placed on the computer via USB Card reader.

Photos JPG, Small Video MPG

I imported photos and videos onto timeline and added a few transitions (3 different Ulead transitions)

Created a Pal DVD from the share menu and saved to HDD.

Timelines cleared....... as per above. Can now preview. but that is as far as it goes.

I have rebooted pc. Created a project with 4 photos and goto to share and same thing happens.

Just seems to be the step of going to burn the DVD. Nothing happens?

Are you absolutely sure the video from the Kodak is mpeg? Or is it MJPEG? There is a (big) difference... Right click on one of the files within Video Studio, either in the timeline or in the Library pane, and copy all its properties here please.

They are MOV files
Quicktime MPEG-4
24bit 640x480

Does this help?

I believe the Easy share Z7590 also uses the MJPEG codec. I have the P880, and while it records video in the "MOV" format, it uses the MJPEG codec. While in the timeline or library, right-click on one of the "MOV" files, and it should have similar properties:

I've never tried to burn one to DVD, as I don't like the quality enough to waste a DVD on video produced by a still camera. However I would suspect a better route, would be to convert the "MOV" file to another format before trying to edit or burn it.

What would you convert it to to make the video better?

I tried to insert the screenshot but would not paste?

I assume you need a link to the graphic on web?

Do you have the MJPEG codec installed on your system? Easiest way for me to find out is to go to Project Properties, then set the Save as File Type to AVI. Then press the Options button, and go to the Compression tab. Press the drop-down arrow. It should read: LEAD MCMP/MJPEG Codec (VFW).

If your clips from your Kodak use the MJPEG codec, you'll want to use the same codec while editing the video. Also try to match the audio in the project settings with that of the video clip.

Now when creating the video file that is to be used for the DVD, just use the DVD (NTSC or PAL), and create your MPEG2.

For what its worth, I just ran a short test on a couple of my "MOV" files. I went to the point of creating DVD folders or burning a disc, and VS did not pose any problems. However I followed what I've laid out above. Also after creating my DVD-MPEG2 file from my project, I selected New Project, (cleared the time-line), then went to Share>Create Disc. Imported the DVD-MPEG2 I just created, added chapters, menus, even changed the background. VS allowed the process, to where I could have burned a disc.

For converting your video from one format to almost any other, try SUPER. It can convert DivX, Xvid or even MPEG4 files.

If you use Super, and convert your "MOV" files to MPEG before editing, I recommend using the MPEG-2, DVD-Compliant. Not just MPEG-2, but the rest of the properties need to be DVD compliant to preserve as much quality as possible.

Not Burning - Options

Post by Accolades »

Hi,

I have just tried DVD Workshop 2 and it too will not get me to the burning stage?

I can import video create the menus, preview the action and even burn ISO and DVD Folders but does not seem to detect the Burner?

I wonder if Upgrading to Nero 8 may have done something?

I have re-installed VS11+ and tested each step but still no burn option.

I very rarely burn directly to a DVD disc from VideoStudio, MovieFactory of DVD Workshop 2. I normally burn to a hard drive folder.
The reasons for this are that
1. I can fine tune the completed DVD Menu pages with MenuEdit and/or PGCEdit - such as tweaking the navigation when pressing the up/down/left/right on the DVD Remote.
2. I can give it a final quality check with a software DVD Player such as
Power DVD / WinDVD / Nero Showtime etc.
I then use another software application to burn that onto disc.
