I'm looking for some tutorial help!

Post by TanBrae »

I am the "in house designer" at work and am trying to figure out how to do this in PI for a brochure I'm creating. http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/mag/ar ... field=2029
I do have PS 6.0, but it is going corrupt, and I can't get the layers to work properly. I'm quite new to PI, and did start an online tutorial, but have moved and don't have internet yet. So, I'm stuck! The book for PI is packed away in storage, so I can't get help from that, either. Can/will any of you help me translate the above instructions to PI?

Whoops! Forgot to add that I am using PI Pro 11. Thanks!

Why do you need translations? The whole thing is in english and can easily be done in PI also. PI doesn't call a layer "Layer" but calls it "Object". PI Objects can be manipulated not unlike layers in PS. Interestingly enough, you use the PI Layer Manager for that.

I think what TanBrae may want is a translation from PS to PI, not necessarily some other language to English or vice-versa, correct TanBrae?

A wealth of tutorials can be found here http://www.pircnet.com/

In don't think one would need a translation to PI, just a bit of lateral thinking.

Erm..... so how did you manage to post on this forum?
Best suggestion I can make is to take a look at the Video Tutorials provided by nmehta
Video Tutorials for PhotoImpact These are very comprehensive and also very easy to follow.

I didn't explain myself very well, did I?

Yes, I am wanting help translating the PS instructions to PI. I know they are similar, but they still use some different wording for same things.

And, the online tutorial I was taking was in PIRC! That is, until I moved, and I am in the country kind of between services, so since service is difficult to get, it's expensive! I can't afford it right now. So, when I post to forums, I'm doing so from work, which is the reason I'm posting! I do have an agreement with PIRC and my mentor there, that when I am back online, I can start up the classes again. I don't have much time to do the classes while I'm at work.

So, what I am really looking for is a step-by-step tutorial on how to do that negative space title for the flier I'm trying to create. And, since I'm still fairly new to PI, they need to be step-by-step because I'm not as familiar with the program as I should be. What I've learned in PS has mostly been self-taught, and I figured I could do that in PI to some extent.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I hope I didn't annoy any of you too much, but I'm really looking for some simple help.

Well, if you had put this information into your first post, I'm sure, you would be further down the track than you are now.

Unfortunately, I'm at work also and, hence, do not have the time to look into this in more detail. I am sure though that a helpful soul, who uses both, PS and PI, will come to the rescue soon.

Good luck with the BW when you can get it going again.
