superimposing video in VS10

Post by derekhughes »

Hi there

Does anone know how I can superimpose one video clip over another?
I DON'T want to chromakey - I am after an effect such as you get with a 'crossfade' transition in the middle of the transition, but with a fixed amount of 'merging' of the video.
I can't see anything in the manual or the forum - sorry if I just missed it!

Thanks

Derek

Put one, or maybe both, of the clips on an overlay track. Instead of using the Chroma Key it sounds like you would want to use the Transparency function, found at the same place as the Chroma Key.

VS9 was of course limited in the overlay tracks to later versions. If you are after just a longer crossfade, why not just extend the length of the transition by highlighting it (the crossfade) and using the little digital clock to change the time it is on screen?

I don't seem to have a Transparency function, only a mask function as an alternative to Chroma key - also I am using V10 not V9 (my mistake, changed recently!!)

The transparency is located on the left. After clicking Mask/Chroma-key, there are number boxes to the left. The top is transparency, the bottom is border color and width.

Apart from extending the duration of the transition, as I already suggested, if you have VS10 PPLUS (and not just VS10), then you will have a number of overlay tracks. Just overlay the videos in two different tracks, but placing the second clip above the chosen point in the first, so that the two extremities overlap.
