MOD files

Post by Mrtibbs »

I'm capturing from a JVC Everio camera that uses .MOD files. (Widescreen format) No problem when rendering as MPEG or creating a DVD, but when I try to save the project as an AVI file, the rendered final output is smaller (in a box).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

VS generally defaults to a lower frame size. You may need to select Custom from the menu, then the options button and set your frame size to match that of your video clips properties. Also make sure that the ratio is set to 16:9, it is set at 4:3 by default.

Hi
So far I know the JVC Everios(like my Panasonic SDR-S100 camcorder that records to SD card) do NOT set the 16:9 widescreen flag in the mpeg2 sequence headers of the MOD files.
Instead, these camcorders provide the information whether 16:9 or 4:3 is used inside the corresponding MOI file. Unfortunately most editing sw do not evaluate the MOI files.
To overcome this I have written a small tool sdcopy.exe that can copy/rename all the MOD files of a SD Card/harddisk to MPG and it will also set the 16:9 widescreen flag correctly.
Sdcopy is freeware, if you like to use it then you can download it from here:
