Hope this doesn't appear twice - I typed this before but I forgot the subject line!
I have just been through a traumatic hard drive crash (drive was only 2 months old!) and have another new hard drive and against my better judgement I now have Vista. Previously I was XP with VS 10+.
Is it now essential that I upgrade to VS11+?
I saw there was a VS10 Vista upgrade from Dec 2006, but there have been heaps of issues I've seen in this forum since then.
PLease advise as I have projects and deadlines that are scary!
Thanks
Peta

Sorry to hear that..
VS10+ may work on your machine with Vista. However you read the posts from members that had problems. Have tried to install and run it on your machine?
I would try that first, and if it does work for you then an upgrade is not needed. If not well....
I know with Vista, Video For Windows (VFW), which include the Indeo, and Cinepak codecs, are not supported. From Ulead's Website:

What is curious is did you opt for Vista on your new HDD, or was that the only option available? I thought XP was to be available for at least the rest of this year. I know in my part of the world, you can still purchase XP, and the price has not changed since it was first released..
- Since Video for Windows (VFW) is not supported in Vista, VFW codecs such as Indeo, Cinepak are not supported in Vista. The video content files provided by VideoStudio will now be encoded using .WMV instead of Indeo codecs.
- Some 3D transition effects that won¡¦t be supported on Vista are removed from current release, including: Flying Board, Flying Cube, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, and Folding Box. Some templates under "Album", "Flash Light" and "Mask" transition effect are also not supported.
- WDM devices are not supported by Vista. Thus, not supported by VideoStudio.
- WMV and MPEG 4 format CAPTURE is not supported.
- MOV and MPEG 4 formats are not supported in this version.
- WinDVD 7, PocketDV show, and Cool3D are not supported.

Hi Ron
Thanks for the reply. Yes Vista picked up instantly that one of only two programs I had were not Vista compatible - Ulead being one of them. I haven't tried to use it per se, it kinda launched itself, had a few coniptions and then sat looking at me - I swear there was a baleful expression there - not been game to actually run it - as my projects are too near deadlines to risk!
I have resisted Vista like the plague, (stubborn old Taurean that i am) but my PC guy persuaded me that I had to do it. I did get trial VS11, but never actually had a chance to test it as I was again not willing to risk the tried, tested VS10+ and I had client projects on the go. I also thought I would only go to it if I ever loaded Vista - d'oh well here I am!
Any views on the VS11.5 mentioned in some posts? Is it out yet? Is it any good?
Cheers

Well I've a Compaq (el-cheapo) laptop that I purchased while attending a trade college, and of course it has Vista. VS11+ with all the updates, upgrades (power pack) is installed and does work well with it.
The only flippin down-side to my laptop, it has no firewire, just USB ports (3 of them). So if I'm going to use it, I have to capture my video from my camcorder to my desktop, then transfer it via LAN to my laptop.

That's one of the first things I thought of after purchasing it. It has no PCI ports either. It served it's purpose while I was in school. I had transfered a few DV clips from my desktop, and played around with them.
It's main purpose was for email back home, and popping into the forum while away. The main feature it had was Wi-Fi, which is what the hotel required.

You appear to be making a living out of video creation. Perhaps it would be wise for you to invest in another hard drive and create a Vista/XP dual boot systemPeta wrote:Hi Ron
