Describe your problem:
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?):
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: Sony DCR-HC40 video camera
Project Settings (important): Microsoft AVI files, lower field first
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): DVD
PAL or NTSC: PAL
Error Codes (if any): unspecified error
Product Version: e.g. VS10 or VS11+ VS10Plus
I have had a problem for some time with the VS10 program just dropping off as if I closed the program out. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the program and installed the service pak. I thought that had solved the problem, but after only a week it is doing the same thing.
I am also getting an unspecified error when trying to burn a DVD. I tried removing the entire clip I had on the time line and reinserted to no avail.
I am capturing as microsoft AVI files. I hope I have supplied enough information for the problem to be diagnoised. Thanks.

What workflow are you using? Share>Create Video file, then going to the burn module, then inserting your newly created DVD compliant MPEG-2, to create and burn your DVD, or Share>Create Disc, going straight to the burn module with your project in the timeline?
While the latter is possible sometimes it places to great a burden on the PC, and the program falls over. (Ken has explained this countless times)
What other applications, or utilities do you have running while you're attempting to burn? Background services, instant messenger programs and others can cause problems at the wrong time. Try shutting down all those that are not absolutely necessary.
Do you have the latest Direct-X installed? I would check MS website and make sure to install the latest release.

Glad that it worked for you..
Yes the workflow that you have been using, does work some or most of the time for most that chose that way. However what we have learned, is that it is very demanding of the PC, and can at times cause a failure.
You may later again try your workflow and not have problems, just one of those computer things...
