Aligning clips on overlay track

Post by beachbumfromoz »

Hey everyone. :D

Have recently bought Ulead VS 11 Plus (came bundled with Photo Impact 12). Love it so far but have a query if anyone can help.

Am doin a video on a recent trip to Singapore and in the main video track I have an intro. Then in overlay track 1 I have a picture in picture with some scrolling text. this portion last about 25 secs and is situated at the end of the "intro" clip.

My problem is this. When I go add another clip to the main video track it goes straight up against the "intro" clip and is unmoveable. I want it start from the end of the overlay track clip.

Any help is much appreciated.

Simply insert a black colour clip in the space in the main track below the overlay track and set it for the length of the intro.

The colour clips can be found in the same drop down menu where you find the transitions, filters and such. It just says 'Colour', and you click on that. Then select the black colour and drag and drop it into the timeline. It will only be there for the time you set in your Preferences for the default time of still images, but when you highlight it, a yellow bar appears at its right hand end. Just point your mouse at that, click and hold the left button, and drag the yellow bar out to the point where the intro in the overlay track ends.

Now, when you insert a video in the main track it will bump up against the end of the black. And will appear as though it comes straight after the intro when you render it all out!

OR, you could put you clip in the overlay track, after the intro.

I have altered the title of your thread from "New User"
Please Read This Before posting wrote:SUBJECT: Please use a subject that describes your exact problem instead of making us guess what's in your post.
Sorry if you this sounds like I am telling you off - I am not.
You can alter the title by using the Image button on your first post.

The purpose of providing a meaningful title is this.
There are a number of members on the forum who try and help troubleshoot problems - myself included. In the early days of the user forum it was not too difficult to be able to read all of the posts submitted since the last time I (or one of the other troubleshooters) had logged on.

On the Forum Home page at the top right is a link
[view posts since last visit] In the forums early days this would perhaps range between 10-30 posts. Today however the board has grown in popularity and more products are now catered for including the former Intervideo products before the merger with Ulead.

There have been days when I have logged on to find over 70 new posts since my last visit. It is of course impossible to read each and every one of them and so it is necessary to look at the titles to pick out posts where I feel I am able to offer some worthwhile input.

if you are viewing perhaps the VideoStudio forum and a post is entitled
"VideoStudio" - it doesn't really give you a clue, similarly in the PhotoImpact forum a post entitled [PhotoImpact] is equally as meaningless.

Giving a post a suitable title is a means of helping us to help you.

Not a problem, thanks for the tip. :)

PS - Black Lab, thanks for your contribution to. However, I will be adding a lot more clips to the timeline and when a vid is added to the overlay track it needs to be resized to fit the screen each time. Ken's tip was spot on.

Thanks again

I was originally going to add, after Black Lab's comment, that if you intended to do editing, including inserting transitions, there was a limit to what you could do if the video was all in the overlay track. But you would have found that out for yourself...!

Actually, in Preferences you can set your overlay tracks to fit to screen.
