Video filter - how to shrink an image?

Post by laurentje »

I looked at the several filters in VS10+, for example zoom+pan but I want a opposite effect of zoom: shrink; so a zoom of less then 100%.
Is this possible in VS?

No VS does not do that. You can fake it by using the crop filter. However it does not shrink the whole image, just crops it. Set the fill color to black, and the start vertical and horizontal dimensions to 100%. Then set the last key frame to 0% for horizontal and vertical.

Vidoman is correct, VS can't do it, however, just to put Vidoman on the spot, and to showcase exactly what you want, HE has an a example of what you want in the form of a video. (ahem) lol. I actually stole the technique from him, and give him credit on every video, (even though he does not know that). http://grandpasgraphics.net/lenfiles/lenidpete1.html

Yes!!
Place the video on an overlay track and resize it as required
Also...
on the Video track use the Distort function (found on the attribute tab).

I agree that you can resize it using the distort clip on the main video track, or just resizing it on one of the overlay tracks, but what I think the OP is after is a moving path where the clip starts at 100% then progressively gets smaller, which is not possible in VS.

MrA, thanks for the credit..;), however I'm a bit confused, the link you provided to my website is the inverse. The images are zooming in at you. That was also done entirely in SwishMax, which can produce the effect the OP is after. (Wasn't until I typed that last sentence, that I realized that's what you meant  )

So with that you can use a flash authoring program, load your images (not video clips), into it. Then in Swishmax I used the Move actionscript command. To make the images shrink, you start at 100%, then end at 0% or whatever size you desire. Through that same "Move" command, you can manipulate the transparency, having it fade out as it gets smaller. I used a fade-in on the images then made them shrink.

Once that is done, create your SWF or AVI, and insert that into VS..viola now you have your images shrinking..;)

Short, fast example...

I was able to reproduce this using MSP 8. Very nice effect too. I used about 5 overlay tracks and moving paths..

Finally I found the solution with a transition effect: MASKD6 between the image and a black board.
Parameters of the mask:
- mask: rectangle
- checked: X-opposite, Y-opposite, Syn-clip, Inverse
- rotation: 0
- path: diagonal
- fade level, size=1

Result: the image shrinks from the whole screen to 1 pixel at the left hand, bottom corner. :D

Try changing the settings to :
  • Mask-rectangle
  • Path-zoom out
  • Sync clip
  • Inverse
  • Rotation-zero
  • Fade Level-10
  • Size-1
It now shrinks to the center..;)
