Hello
I have just upgrade to VS11.5Plus. The version number is 11.5.0157.2 Plus. My system spec should more than cope, see below.
When I capture after various lengths of capture time ie 5min, 2mins etc the capture process stops, sometimes it will restart only to stop again.
At times it will completly lock the program and the way out of this situation is to disconect the firewire from the camera.
The camera is a JVC GR-D740E using TDK DV digital standard ME 60 tapes and I connect to a dedicated firewire card.
There are no problems in the program recognising the camera and controlling it.
I do not know if it is a settings problem or something else but seeing that all the other options from editing, creating titles and burning work fine it looking to me the most likely option.
Any help or advice gretly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Capture problem

Does the same thing happen when you capture using another program, like Windows Movie Maker which comes as part of XP? It will capture in DV format too. If you have the same problem with it, then the cause of the problem is something outside Video Studio. You could also try a small, free program called WinDV for windv.mourek.cz which a number of us here use. Let us know the results.

Um... etech ... Windows Movie Maker cannot capture (or edit) mpeg format. It can only capture in DV or wmv formats, and I am assuming the OP is capturing DV. However, it would be useful if he could confirm exactly what format he is capturing in and what format he successfully used with Move Maker...

Formats
Hello
Sorry for the delay but the bed was calling.
I was capturing in DV format, I have also tried MPEG but to no avail.
With MovieMaker I captured in DV and the resulting file is wmv file.
Kind Regards

Update
Hello
I captured 16 minutes of video from the same tape using MovieMaker and then imorted the file into VS11.5.
The results without any editing was then burnt to DVD and it played perfectly.
I have tried to capture a differnt tape using VS, the results were slightly better but still the capture process stops and then restarts.
All test are being carried out using DV capture options.
Kind Regards

Re: Formats
No you captured as wmv.AZTEC wrote:With MovieMaker I captured in DV and the resulting file is wmv file.
See here for how to capture as dv.avi in movie maker and try again.

Is the tape recorded to from beginning to end? ie no breaks in time code. If the timecode keeps resetting to zero this can sometimes affect programmes.
Are you using mains power, not battery?

Thanks
Hello
The format I selected was DV but having looked at the link you provided I am sure I did not go through the proceedure you outlined.
I have been performing various tests using VS each of which produced the same type of broken output but at differing points in the capture.
The recording was with mains power.
Is this an issue with camcorders in general or only when using MovieMaker?
The tape was not a contiuous recording from beginning to end but I was only trying to capture the first section of the tape.
Thankyou very much for your input I will keep posting the results of the tests I am making.
Kind Regards
(EDIT)
I started checking out various aspects of the computer and the first thing was to use a different firewire cable, the results were the same.
Next I checked the device manager and it reported that the firewire card was working correctly.
The firewire card it a dedicated card with just three firewire ports. I changed the cable to a different port and the next capture was perfect using the original DV tape.
I continued to capture three more clips from the same tape with excellent results.
I then used a different DV tape and captured without any problems.
At this time the capture problem appears to be solved.
I would like to thank all who have input to help solve this problem.
Kind regards
